Klickitat, (Mount Adams) in Washington State on the Oregon Border

in #photography7 years ago

Known by some of the local First Nations Native tribes as Pahto or Klickitat, this is Mount Adams, just to the north of the Columbia  river. And it is a sleeping but potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range.

It has not erupted in over 1,000 years, but is not extinct. Mount Adams is a member of the Cascade Volcanic Arc, and is one of the arc's  largest volcanoes. It’s the second-highest mountain in the U.S. state of  Washington, after Mount Rainier. It is in a remote wilderness area 34  miles (55 km) east of Mount St. Helens.  (Research Source)

The Mount Adams Wilderness comprises the upper and western part of  the volcano's cone. The eastern side of the mountain is part of the  Yakama Nation. Adams' asymmetrical body rises 1.5 miles (2.4 km) above  the Cascade crest. Its nearly flat summit was formed as a result of  numerous cone-building eruptions from separated vents around the top.

This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.

Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.

I hiked that bad boy back when I was 19yrs old (35now) What an amazing hike through the snow. The best part was the long slide down. You really get movin!!

Waww ..really nice picture

Great post like it!

I was just looking at that mountain from Gifford Pinchot last weekend. Great pic! Love the Pacific Northwest.

That is a breathtaking photograph! It looks as if it's coming out of the bluest ocean, like some leviathan.

Thank you... that was a cool morning for sure!

This is awesome and a beautiful mountain shoot. How I wish to see the full clarity of the .mountain. You clearly state that It’s the second-highest mountain in the U.S. state of Washington, after Mount Rainie and I would I've love to see clearly the whole mountain.

But so far so good this image posted is cool @skypilot

It's photos like these of places untouched by buildings and businesses that I love the most. The Australian outback is still vastly untouched in terms of things built/being built, that is one reason I love the 4 hour drive to travel along a highway to go interstate. Such open spaces with the occasional small towns, sometimes things like a bakery or servo (service station) etc.

Thanks and I agree with you fully. I try to only shoot places that are undisturbed and unaltered with human footprint. Here in the USA and Canada we have endless stretches of open country. I love it!! yehaw!!

It is definitely great to see the open landscape of the country.

You're everywhere these days!

LOL !!! Not as much as it seems... these days I am posting only when I am grounded by whatever circumstances that won't allow me to fly and shoot, so I am pulling images from my collection. Which is a LOT of places. I have been shooting this project since 2011. yehaw!!

haha! i thought you were doing some epic continent crossing (;
