What Does That Have To Do With My Right To Be Free?

in #voluntaryism6 years ago

Recently I discovered an amazing quote that conveys what many voluntaryists and anarchists believe in a short and concise message.  When debating philosophy we are often asked questions like "why do you believe that?", "you really think we can survive without government?", and "who will build the roads?" This quote aptly answers them all.

“What statists of all types fail to understand is that anarchists don’t believe what they do from a utilitarian perspective. Although they realize that free people will do better in the world than ruled ones, anarchy is not adopted for a better ‘society’, or any other such collectivist notion. The belief in freedom is philosophical. It is held by men with the certain knowledge that they have a right to live their own lives, to pursue their own happiness, and no other man, or groups of men, has any moral right to rule them or impede their individual liberty.

So when you say ‘it won’t work’, it’s entirely irrelevant. There *are* answers to all your irrational fears about roads, police and armies. But, they are entirely beside the point. While anarchists understand that voluntary societies will always outperform ones where your options are limited by the arbitrary use of force, that is not why they believe what they do. Anarchists are anarchists because it is the only fully moral and non-contradictory position a man can hold about himself, and other men.

So, the *real* answer to ‘who will build the roads?’ is: ‘what does that have to do with my right to be free?’"

I am of the view that human beings are social creatures. The ideal condition would be to allow ourselves to be free of the burdens that impede are very nature. The ideal condition would be to exist in a society where social responsibility and all other responsibilities as a human beings are accepted by the person voluntarily.

This is the ideal scenario. This is what utopia would look like on earth.

What worries me is that a lot of folks don't tend to understand when they claim to be anarchists. If we follow their posts and the history we could see that their claim of anarchism arise from a deep seated discontent against the modern governance. I hundred percent agree with the fact that present day governments suck and discontent of people is genuine.

This person who wrote this quote, knows what he is talking about and he understands the idea of freedom. But the others who claim to be part of something without understanding the idea might harm the genuine cause.

PS: I am not an anarchist. Just a guy believes that there is a better solution out there. We need to find it.

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free. ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Excellent post that is quite thought provoking post thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

The question is this, Is their any true freedom anywhere? When you try to be free from something, you end up becoming slave to another.

A lot of people we consider to be free are pretenders. Until you are able to do what you want to when you want to do them, you are not free! Lol

Thanks bud, you got me thinking about this concept of freedom.

Some people need to be told what to do, and how to think. These people are the ones who believe that one man should rule and control us. Such an outdated concept.

This has nothing to do with your right to live the free life, you have your life, and you have a full right to live it the way you want to live, beside of thinking that what other's will think, other's people are nothing, well
Who built the read?
if you will not have the government? it doesn't mean you also don't have engineers. The doesn't build the reads, it the engineers who do. The government is only there to fill their pockets and it is there just to scare you with their fucking security issues.
