Farewell STEEM

in OCD5 years ago

After seeing this post by @themarkymark I feel it’s time for me to stop posting on STEEM. I have been cross-posting lately but it does feel rather like milking the sick cow and I’m not comfortable with it.

I see many people trying to get as much STEEM as possible from the platform before saying adios with shit-posts and comment upvotes amongst other things.

...'I really don't care anymore, and good luck to them'...

My downvote pool on STEEM will remain at 100%, people can do what they like now. I recently wrote about the looters being in town, smashing shop windows and walking out with 65' TVs.

That how STEEM feels for me now, and it’s not something I want a part of.

image.png

...'fear me no more scammers, vote-buyers, plagiarists, comment-voters, you can now do what you like and my downvote VP will remain at 100%'...

It pains me to leave, I have worked fucking hard to build up the reputation I have sought over the last 2 years. Reputation, not the (74), but respect in the community means everything to me.

My work is ALWAYS over 400 words and typically 600-700, I don’t shit-post, and while you may find what I write dull and boring, I can honestly say that its MINE, I wrote it and nobody else.

image.png

...'do you have a shit-pile?, here's mine but be careful... it smells'...

For every piece of work I write, I try to add value, whether it be knowledge, education or humour. If it contains none of these elements then it gets added to the shit-pile.

Not everything I write makes it on to the chain.

Today I was sadly looking at this post by @tasteem. It got only TWO posts and there are THREE prizes of SBD for the top three winners.

image.png

That's FREE STEEM and nobody can be bothered to collect it by writing even a crappy review.

Regardless of what you think of @tasteem, it was another victim of the delegation removal that happened recently.

During the last few days, I have noticed @tasteem is no longer issuing new contests.

Are they moving house? I could ask on the discord channels but someone already has and received a non-conclusive response.

I was an avid writer of restaurant reviews for @tasteem. I will miss writing for them and hope they can move to HIVE. What does @tasteem have left on STEEM?

image.png

...'@tasteem contests are thin on the ground recently, the CoronaVirus is not helping and not being able to eat out could be a factor'...

There’s few left to enter their once buoyant contests, because their voting power is gone, and the incentive is now being placed on individuals who I will not personally comment on.

This is just a single example of what I have seen.

...'I don’t like what I see, and if I don’t like it I walk away. It’s simple really'...

Some of my STEEM will be sold for HIVE, some for other crypto's, and maybe a smaller amount for a McDonalds Apple Pie if they ever open again.

...'to eat a McDonalds' Apple pie paid for by STEEM; you see... all the hard work was NOT in vain'...

You have to live the dream right?

I still have a large STEEM stake and will continue to auto and manually curate while it's powering down.

100,000 HIVE seems achievable, that's my target before all the STEEM is gone.

You can find me and all my forthcoming content exclusively on the HIVE blockchain. I wish you well STEEM and hope you get what you are looking for.

See you Hive!

For sure, good times ahead!

You are a class act Chops, and this is the sort of post I am not surprised to be reading from you.

Your call on not joining in the lower quality efforts whilst leaving the building, I'm doing the minimum but once a day, and there will be some words (unless gaming) at least.

Hive on!

You are a class act Chops, and this is the sort of post I am not surprised to be reading from you.

Thanks, Asher, that means a lot to me. You can't buy respect, and I value it above everything... even more free STEEM.

and there will be some words (unless gaming) at least.

I have at least another week before joining the workforce again, so more gaming for me too. There's not a lot else we can do?

I'm betting subscriptions in World of Warcraft have increased, Blizzard owners will be shaking their fists in joy atop the HQ roof!

:)

Yeah i suspect the likes of Steam are doing well right now - although Pings could well be worse than they were last month.

You know, I've never played WoW, but do have plenty of other games can soak up your time. That reminds me, I should check in on Elite Dangerous and see if they've added anything new in the past 6 months...

Elite Dangerous.. I bought an xBone just to play it, then sold both the game and console in the space of a week.

...'Why couldn't they fit docking computers for new players'...

I played to death on the C64, but could not dock the damn thing no matter how hard I tried. It was sell it or throw both console and game through the window in exasperation.

Great game, but too hard to get going. The combat used to be great though.

I play No Man's Sky.. but it's a different game entirely.. and one seemingly without much purpose.

'Why couldn't they fit docking computers for new players'...

Because docking is part of the fun!

I will try to stream ED in the next half hour - not sure my laptop can take the game plus OBS though.

Used to play the original and number 2 on the Spectrum/Amiga - I did not look as pretty as these days :)

Because docking is part of the fun!

Ack no! docking sucks. I want to be killing pirates, not smashing my ship up every few minutes in frustration. If they ever patch it to include docking computers as an optional buy-it product... let me know and I will buy it again.

Docking computers have been around for a while, but I refuse to waste a slot on one.

This is probably going to stream like a dog, but here goes......

It's sad to leave, but sometimes you just need to move on. Being on Steem was not just about the money. It had to be fun too and with the loss of the community that has gone.

See you on Hive.

and with the loss of the community that has gone.

The community and the drama made it all worth it. There were disagreements but all the real people have moved, even some who are questionable. It is good to keep the noisy family together, in a new place I say.

I have been crossposting to steem as well which makes me feel a bit dirty.. Not sure how long I'll continue but I imagine it will taper off as slowly sell off my stake.

Of course it's not really a goodbye as far as I'm concerned; just moving house.

just moving house.

It is, if the whole community was gone, dispersed that would be terrible. I would really miss it, drama as well! See you at the Hive.

In the same boat here as all of our hard work now down the drain.
But such is life and we continue on Hive,
All strength to you mate!

Thanks, @papilloncharity, will see you on the Hive, have given you a follow over there!

Thank you and will have a lookout for you there!
Blessings!

Yeah, I think the time has come... I read Marky's post and it just makes me really sad what's happening here.

I guess the pundits who always regarded Steem as a shitcoin will get their day in the spotlight, soon...

=^..^=

It is a shame what has happened, I have pretty much moved over to just posting on Hive, a few every now and then comments on steem. I still try to go and vote on stuff, as I am not sure about powering down just yet. I may still make an occasional post here, but not very likely.

When I see steemit account throwing full votes around like candy and down voting post like the mad hatter, I don't feel so bad about voting on peoples post that are powering down, I have also been doing some blind voting, okay a lot of blind voting, because i really don't care what the post is about in a lot of cases. I did read yours, that's why I'm leaving a comment.

It is a hard thing to just stop after two years, all but one of my delegations that I had out are gone only one left for the little text game I like playing. Pretty much the only reason I come back to steem chain once a day. When they get the dice bot working over on hive, then I wont be spending to much time on steem. I will stop by every now and then to vote on newly created things that are 4 minutes old until 8 minutes old, and call it a day.

This cross-posting was getting a little much. I know I could milk it more but it doesn't feel right. I will still curate, I may as well.. as there is still some 'proper' content being made on STEEM.

I actually had to come here through writing the URL on my browser... it wasn't available on Steempeak, this is is really really weird!

Well... I'm moving too, I can't keep posting on a centralized blockchain and create value to JS, I would rather go someplace else and last-case scenario, go to Wordpress...

There's something going on regarding manipulation of the chain, its affecting posts on Steempeak as well as our old friend Steemit. It's not on my feed via peak either, or on busy too.

mmmm.. apple pie!

McDonald's is closed indefinitely here. Given enough time people will kill for a taste of one of those!

damn! It really is the end of the world!!

😫

Good to know. It was fun while it lasted. For me, I get stupid downvotes no matter what I post which isn't much these days.

Those downvotes you are getting are from dickheads with virtually no STEEM, we all get them, don't let them bother you.

They don't bother me to much....it's just that there seems to be more than usual lately and they also seem to be the first one to vote.

Thanks!!
