Garden Project Part 6

in #garden7 years ago

The Pond Feature.

Have now created a small pond area, and have partitioned this off with some spare lengths of wood I had. These were originally going to part of the struts for the decking.

Ordered a pre-formed pond from Amazon, and then simply dug out a hole in the corner of the garden, I lined the hole first with sharp sand that I picked up from the local building suppliers to avoid any damage, the cost of the pond was on offer and was £20.00. The sand cost £3 and that was even delivered, the spare wood was roughly about £30 worth, but as it was spare, it was put to good use.

Once everything was in place, I then filled the pond from rainwater I had collected in a water butt. This way there was no reason to treat it, as I wanted it to be 100% natural.pond1.jpg

Then came the final touches, I purchased a solar fountain, although when arrived it did seem quite small but does the trick. I also bought an underwater pool light, again this was solar powered and to be honest this proved to be quite impressive. The last thing I bought was some plants that will help to oxygenate the water and encourage wildlife.

Although there has been no sign of frogs as yet, the dogs are really impressed and one of them have got themselves a little wetter than they would have liked to.

Will get some more photos of this and its situation.
The overall cost of this part of the project came around £100.00 in total, with the exception of a spade I had to buy specifically to dig the initial hole.
