Turkey hunting trip to Pine Log Mountain, Georgia

in #adventure5 years ago

Over the course of two days, @ryulincoln and I got up early and waited at the wildlife management areas gate for sunrise. We would be able to enter once the sun started to light up the back of the trees around us. When that time can we headed into the forest, about five miles of dirt roads to where it ends. We brought along our backpacks and shotguns and got to looking for signs of Turkey. We headed down to the Cotton fields and found a good place to call out to them. Nothing responded at the time so we moved on and looked for other good spots to call out to them.

We came across many streams, some we had to hand out guns to cross as it was a little bit of a jump. Other ones were just merely puddles and did not make much for an obstacle.

The plants were waking up around us and so was the wild life as the sun started to warm up the near by woods. While @ryulincoln called out to the Turkeys I made my way around looking for other signs of animal life.

We concluded our calls and moved to another spot further down the path, just repeat and walk repeat and walk. Honestly I was just glad to be out in the woods with my friend.

We climbed down into a ravine and found ourselves having to climb back out, was pretty tough doing that while holding my gun but my friend helped me get there. Once we climbed the hill we found ourselves in a new field and thought we would give hunting it a try. So we set up behind some logs and got to waiting. Though in the end we did not have any luck and packed up our stuff. Seeing some Tadpoles in a puddle of water was fun, and the clumps of them were feeding on something as far as we could tell.

There were many puddles and with the recent rains it has added to their size, within a few days they should form into frogs.

Setting up a blind I wait awhile inside to see if anything comes across our paths. We found ourselves waiting for awhile but nothing came around. Seems the Turkeys were not interested in coming out at the time we were there. Funny how we heard them in the early morning though.
