Just maybe the WORLDS LARGEST SCULPTURE!!!!! A visit to CRAZY HORSE in South Dakota!

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Picture is of ACTUAL Monument! A phenomenal FAMILY story still alive today! Korczak Ziolkowski, orphaned at the age of 1 had a talent to be a sculptor…fast forward he was hired by Borglum to be a sculptor assistant for Borglum’s Mount Rushmore project.

That ended in a fistfight with his son, but his experience sculpting in the Black Hills made him known to the Indian Lakota Elder, Henry Standing Bear, who was also overly impressed with his 1st place prize sculptor of Ignacy Jan Paderewski.

The Lakota elder was interested in a Crazy Horse monument being built and to “let the white man know that the red man has heroes, too!”Korczak took up the opportunity and moved to the Black Hills where he started in 1948…

The monument is nowhere near done, but the progress is still coming along. With Korczak’s 7/10 children running the project now, it’s a personal story definitely worth visiting to see!
