WWJSay: Is "I Love You" Requisite for "I Do"

Ref: John 21:15

Wow. It’s date night for most people. So, I guess it prolly explains why my day started with the stark thought that Jesus never directly said the words “I love you.”

Let me rewind and say, according to bibilical text it is not recorded that Jesus ever said these three words.

That said, could you marry a person who never said they loved you; but showed you through their actions that they valued you tremendously, and was there for you if you ever needed them?

What if this person proposed to you with ring in hand; but, never said they loved you; would refraining from these three words be a deal-breaker?

Ughm, let me say I’d rather have love in action and deed, than hollow words any day.

I’m reminded that satan is notorious for empty words. How many people have said they loved you through the years; but, their actions were everything but?

Just something to think about; and, worth noting again; Jesus was the most loving example of humanity; and, unless I’ve missed something in my many years of studying the Bible, He never said those three most ‘romantic’ words in the universe; but, on many occasions showed His love beyond measure.

Oddly, and quite notably Jesus asked Simon Peter several times in succession…”Do you love Me?”

Each time He received a positive reply, Jesus responded with commands for this apostle to fulfill. In other words, show your love, more than speaking mere words.

Ah, life’s irony.

And just for the hay of it, I’ll offer rare disclosure; that yes, I deem it okay to marry someone who shows you purest love; but, refrains from the verbiage.

Many a happy and enduring marriage have held through the decades without benefit of these too often shallow and empty words without actions to match.

Peace.
