Kansas City Chiefs Trade Alex Smith to Washington Redskins | It’s 2 PM
As most of you have heard, the Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement to trade Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, in exchange for Cornerback Kendall Fuller and a 3rd round pick. (The NFL does not begin the necw season until March, but the trade is perceived to hold, until then.)For those who are unfamiliar with Kendall Fuller, he was rated the #6 overall Cornerback by Pro Football Focus and the #1 slot corner by Bleacher Report. The 3rd round pick has not been identified in terms of year, but one would assume it is for the upcoming draft.
What does this mean for the Chiefs?
New Chiefs Acquisition: Kendall Fuller
The Chiefs receive a great young corner in Kendall Fuller to pair alongside Marcus Peters. This bolsters a pass defense which gave up the second most yards per game this season.
They also receive a third round pick. The Chiefs do not own their first rounder this season (Mahomes Trade) so an extra third rounder lessens the blow.
The Chiefs save 17 million in salary. This is probably the most intriguing part of the deal. According to spotrac.com, the Chiefs should have around 7 million dollars to work with in free agency this offseason, leaving them with several options to improve the roster. (OL, DL, WR)
The Mahomes Era begins now. We get to see what Mahomes can do as the full time starter a year earlier than I expected!! I am a big Mahomes AKA 2PM fan. Before last years draft, I thought the Chiefs may have a slight chance in getting him, as he was projected to go in the late first where the Chiefs were slotted (27th). As the draft drew near he quickly rose, but former GM John Dorsey did not hesitate in trading up for him. I think that he has all of the tools to become a dynamic player for the Chiefs next season. He will expectedly have some early growing pains, aside from the show he put on against the Broncos in week 17. But I am all in on Patrick Mahomes, this is now his team.
