Steemit Engagement Challenge S6 - W2: What steps would you take to save the soil?

Hello everybody.

Welcome to this post. I hope that all of you will be good and happy and enjoying your precious health with the grace and blessings of Almighty Allah. Today, I am going to be a part of the week 2 contest of Hind Whale Community and the topic is Steps to Save the Soil. So, stay tuned.

Soil is the most important component of our environment. It is very much essential for the survival of all kingdoms on the earth. It provides great benefits to the lives of all species and the most importantly they gave the necessary and vital minerals and salts to the producers of the environment (plants).

Soil has been serving the mankind since the birth of first man and unfortunately today, the soil is in danger due to the activities of the mankind that do not favour the composition, quality, and purity of the soil. It is a very bad condition that we are unaware of the problems that our soil facing these days.

Problems Faced by the Soil

Deforestation

The most important problem that is causing very negative impacts on the soil is the deforestation. Deforestation means the cutting down of the trees and plants to convert a non-agricultural, non-domestic land, non-industrial land to the agricultural, domestic and industrial land and to get the wood for various purposes including the manufacturing of furniture, houses, lumber and timber etc.

Forests are the most important part of a healthy environment and when we cut them, it can effect the quality of the environment very badly. Plants are actually the environmental buffers and they maintain the mineral concentration of the soil. But when they are cut, the balance is disturbed that is a great problem.

Over Use of Fertilizer

Another major problem that is faced by the soil today is the accumulation of the chemicals that are present in different types of the fertilizers. Today, different farmers use the fertilizers in excess amount without having knowledge of the side effects of that products for the soil of the plants.

As a result, the chemical composition of the soil has been disturbing for the last hundred years. Although, the minerals are the need of the soil but the balance of everything is very much important for the proper working. So, the over use of fertilizer is very much dangerous for the soil.

Water Logging

Water logging has been a great issue for the soil for the past few years. Water logging may happen due to the improper arrangements for the disposal of the wastes in the domestic or commercial areas. This water logging may lead to the loss in the fertility of the soil.

Also, the water logging may also be caused dir to the landfills. Landfills are actually the large holes in the land where the pollutes substances are kept to avoid the environmental pollution but when the water mix with these toxic substances, it may cause the destruction of the chemical composition of the soil, thus creates problem.

Irregular Crops Growth

Another important problem that could be considered here is the irregular growth of the crops. There are many lands where there is lack of growth of the crops. With the lack of crops, the land becomes barren or the soil erosion may occur that is the worst shape of the degradation of the soil.

Also, the irregular growth of the vegetables, wheat, sugar cane and other items regarding the seasonal demands is also another problem for the soil. The rice crops are suggested to grow in the winter season because the soil is much moisturized in that season.

Prevention of the Soil Problems

There are a few steps that could be adopted to take care of the soil and prevent it from the above mentioned problems. Some of these steps are listed below.

Reforestation and Afforestation

The most important step that can be considered to prevent our precious soil from all the problems is Afforestation and Reforestation technique. Afforestation means the growing to forests or trees where there was no a forest in past. While, Reforestation is the growing of forests at those places where they were already plants.

Actually, the forests act as the environment buffer and absorb any kind of dangerous changing in the surrounding environment. Thus, they can absorb the extra water from the soil and maintain balance in the concentration of water in the soil. Thus, soil can be prevented from the major problems.

Proper Drainage System

Another important thing that can be adopted to prevent the soil is the proper arrangements for the disposal of the wastes from the domestic and the industrial areas. The proper drainage system could be able to prevent the soil from the accumulation of various toxic liquor and chemicals.

Balanced Fertilizer Use

The balanced use of the fertilizers is also very much important for the proper functioning of the soil. Soil also needs the essential nutrients and these nutrients could be supplied from outside through these fertilizers but it is must to be aware of the side effects of the over use and misuse of these fertilizers.

Adjacent Farming

It is technique that can be adopted to improve the fertility of the soil that is under cultivation. In this technique, the multiple crops are grown on the same land. Mostly, different kinds of vegetables are grown at the same land to improve the fertility by keeping in view the mineral capacity of the soil for various plants.

The health of the soil is very much important for the survival of the mankind. If the soil is destroyed, the supply of the necessary minerals for the plants is disturbed and hence the whole environment is disturbed completely. There arr a few ways to prevent the destruction of the soil including the Afforestation, Reforestation, Regularity in the crops growth and the Adjacent Farming technique.
