Civilization VI - My First Look and Thoughts About the Game

in #civilization7 years ago (edited)

Well its been a while since I play the famous Civilization series created by Sid Meier's it is a Canadian game studio which is famous for their amazing series called civilization. Civilization V was such a success and it earned several awards and it was quite satisfactory , however I didn't buy the Civilization Beyond Earth or Civilizaton IV right after the release because I didn't believe there will be much changes in gameplay and the price was quite high , but I finally bought it thanks to Steam's black friday deals last month.

First Look and Insights

Well I'm writing this review after several games which took more than 20 hours and I'm quite familiar to gameplay and meta in ol Civilization but there are few things I want to adress in this one. First of all our famous Eddard Stark made the voice work in the story telling part which is quite nice.

I will talk about the gameplay later but there are several things I liked despite all the hatred towards the Civilization VI by the community. Graphics are pretty dazzling for me , they used pretty hot colors and the characterization of the leaders are a little more cartoony , eventhough I really like the graphic changes in the game , those cartoonish leaders are definetely breaking my mood to conquer all the world. Other than that it is classic civilization and the good part is it looks like they finally manage to fix the problems in the multiplayer game mode which is great news. The game is pretty different than Civilization V in the gameplay and lets talk about that a little.

Gameplay Changes and Some New Mechanics

There are 3 new terms waiting for the players in Civilization VI amenities , housing , specialized zones the mechanics in the game are completely different and let me be honest with you there are a lot of things I didn't like about it. Amenities basicly replaces the happiness mechanics , housing is codependant mechanic with food which will provide growth of population in your cities and specialized zones this is my least favourite change in the game.

Eventhough the mechanics in specialized zones are simple it is completely annoying , now you need to choose a tile to build a religious site that will allow you to build all your religious building on to that tile and it applies to industrial area and scientific area , there are some areas like that and you need to sacrifice your tile if you have to. I think it is the worst part because you can't just build it up on any tile if your city is small you need to sacrifice your good tile with food or even luxury sources and it may decrease your housing which is an irritating game mechanic for me and that tile with all buildings is completely exposed to barbarian attack in the early game so you need to protect them or it may cost you several turns.

There are some other basic changes in the game mechanics and policies but the everything annoys me is about tiles , you can't build wonders by clicking it now you need to choose a tile to build on it , which will destroy the current benefits of a tile so you can't really rush Wonders with some production bonuses because your tiles are not enough for that. Beside all the negative affects there is a Religious Victory option now it was mostly a Culture Victory or UN domination option in the previous patches so now you can only win with religious if the all world accepts your religion but it is a pretty hard victory method.

Also there are some boosts in the game which will make researches faster which I found annoying like if you made 3 trade routes research for market is reduced by 50 percent so you need to memorize all and do your build according to that and I don't like it , also now after doing 2-3 works all the workers are consumed so you need to add their building turns in to your strategy because you will be doing a lot of workers.

Final Thoughts

The game is good there are several different mechanics like sending envoy to city state , eventhough I find UN exciting its not in the patch , the price is quite high I can't say its worth the price if its not in discount but they show that Civilization game series will always stay updated and exciting , You know Civilization tactics they always expand the game with DLC's but the raw version of Civilization VI is far more detailed than Civilization V , however I find the number of leaders are really limited but new leaders are in the DLC pack as always , despite all the negative reviews I like the game and it is definetely playable but if you are a Civilizaton fan like my you may find some of the changes unorthodox thats why I'm sure it got a lot of negative reviews because you know Civilization V was the year of the game after all.

Thanks for Reading & Hasta La Vista!

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Civilization V was such a success and it earned several awards and it was quite satisfactory , however I didn't buy the Civilization Beyond Earth or Civilizaton IV right after the release because I didn't beleive there will be much changes in gameplay and the price was quite high , but I finally bought it thanks to Steam's black friday deals last month.
It should be believe instead of beleive.

Fall from heaven ruined civ for me, they all seem bland after.

Oh for all man , but thanks to Civ V my faith is restored :D

I wonder how many nukes have you throw at your enemies after playing for 20 hours :P

Recently I finished The Evil Within 2 and it was ok, enjoyed the first one a little bit more, but it was a good horror game. Right now I started with The Witcher 3 but it is a huge game so I doubt I will ever finish it.

Waiting for We happy few and life is strange 2 to be released :D

I don't expect any games this year from famous Studios :D and I like the new nukes ! thermonuclear ones shatter cities
