The holiday was first celebrated in the USSR in 1925; 20 years later, the People's Committee of the USSR issued a resolution according to which the "Radio Day" was announced annually on May 7. Interestingly, there is no such holiday in the Russian Federation, but it is still celebrated according to the Soviet tradition.

On May 7, 1895, Alexander Popov presented the world's first radio receiver. Also on this day, scientists managed to achieve radio communication for the first time, transmitting messages in Morse code.

On May 7, it is customary to award certificates and cash prizes to radio operators. Museums and cultural institutions organize exhibitions and performances related to radio electronics.
