Steemit shows the ugly face of our society.
Good evening to all steemit users,
first i want to apologize for my bad english, im german :)
Like a lot users i am new in the steemit universe. The concept of steemit is fascinating and when i first heard of steemit i was immediately interested.
However i looked at the trendings and i was shocked. The most successful posts are not about politics or anything substantial, its about women doing yoga, cute puppies and males who make fuckin make up tutorials. (Please excuse the vulgar language.)
It shows me what our society has become and i am wondering why. I mean, there are so many more important things in life. Starving children (to begin with the most obvious stereotype about somebody who wants to demonstrate the cruelty of this world), unnecessary drone wars were 95% of the victims are innocent civilians and all this racism we still could not solve yet.
It seems like all we care about is having a nice house, a car, and our smartphone we can watch porn, cute puppies and stupid pranks with.
It is just depressing and im wondering how everybody with a functional brain and a bit humanism could work against this trend of this meaningless life.
If you know how, let me know.
----- UPDATE ------
Of course i am not new to the internet like some comments are saying. It is just so, that the transparent concept of steemit shows more than ever how big the mass of people is who want to see all this irrelevant stuff.
Compassion and empathy are good for the soul. I feel that one has to break away, unplug from the social engineering we have going on today, to really see the bad going on. Then commit to change individually.
Stick with it, there is gonna be a bit of crap in steemits infancy, it's mostly all information about how the system works, or things to make you laugh, or possibly a bit of positive discrimination occurring for the fairer sex
But the point is, there is a grouping of intelligent people, and hopefully all people eventually, and you will be able to find the content you like easier, and it will be better content, as steemit grows.
Give it time, keep contributing, and enjoy the ride.
This sir, is the internet xD
The internet really doesn't care about all that stuff, Yes some of the time there will be intellectual discussions on here... BUT most of the times it will be boobs and cats.
I made this now - https://steemit.com/boobs/@warrensteem/seeing-how-the-trends-of-steemit-work-boobs-and-cats
thats front page worthy content right there.
it's not the ugly side of humanity at all it's just another side of it. we can't be focused on the big issues every moment of everyday..that's a sure fire way to find yourself checking into the nearest available mental health unit with a major bought of depression or much worse.
time taken doing, reading and watching things just because they make us smile are important for our wellbeing.
We don't need to discuss politics and such big issues on here. While it's partly done, I personally see this as a nice meeting of friendly, smart people, and if there's a deman on these topics, they will be here. If not, they won't, thats just the principle.
If you want to change something, you have to riot. Easy as that.
i totally agree, nothign but bullshit wherever you look
Hihihihi! You are right a bit)
People like simple things)
This is still a very new platform with a developing community. It's designed to cover a very broad swatch of different types of information both serious and not so serious which I don't see a problem with. On Reddit there are many subs devoted to serious topics like politics and economics and there are many subs devoted to very silly topics along with a whole range of things.
I think in time you'll see smaller sub-groups on Steemit devoted to the things you mention above, in fact, you could help get those kinds of discussions jump started by writing posts about them.
you are new to the world wide web aren't you?!
I would consider these growing pains? I hope? Months from now there will be so much content on here if it isn't something truly remarkable it doesn't really stand a chance. Well maybe the female makeup tutorial does..
