Errol 'The ShowStopper' Spence

On Fox's prime time Monday slot, we got a jovial interview between the two competitors lacing up gloves this Saturday in Los Angeles. The Staples Center will host one of the most highly sought after welterweight bouts between the IBF champion Errol 'The Truth' Spence Jr...
...and the WBC champion Shawn 'Showtime' Porter. Porter's close win over Yordenis Ugas created somewhat of a stir, especially since Spence was planned to be his next fight.. and the most difficult test of his career. These are two power punchers with a lot of grit and heart.
I expect nothing less than a war for 6 rounds, and although Shawn is an understandable underdog he should not be underestimated in this bout. Los Angeles is a place where Shawn has fought before, and both men are suited to the bright lights.. so it will come down to pure skill and talent.
Welterweight has become quite interesting in 2019. Manny Pacquiao's dominance over Keith Thurman (whom holds a win over Shawn Porter) showed that the elite level of 147-154 pounds still haven't quite figured out how to solve the puzzle of 'experience' and 'veteranship'.
Both of these men are veterans, and Errol Spence is an Olympian from the 2012 squad. Porter will be at a technical disadvantage in this fight, but on pure power and grit I'd say the level is quite even. Spence is an incredibly conditioned athlete as is Porter... but when it comes to the brawl Porter would take it.
Errol really can't get swept up in emotion or taking Porter at all lightly... Shawn knows he is in against the better man and will show up in his best condition. Spence is always a professional, and I don't see him taking Porter lightly, but it's a possibility.. and the only true route for Porter to win in my opinion.
Boxing is strange in that champions can at time be contained within an organization. These situations are useful to champions who'd prefer to cherry pick opponents within their own organization as opposed to stepping up and unifying titles. Porter is finally unifying, and I am happy for this.
One can say it's a bit too late for Errol to be respected as the pound for pound champion, but he's been my #1 for years now. Ever since the fateful day in 2017 when Spence dismantled Kell Brook in the UK.. I've seen the level of the IBF welterweight champion, and I see nobody taking his titles.
It will be an incredible night when 'The Truth' and 'Showtime' show out and give it their all. It will be a welterweight battle for the ages, and hopefully we can get a modern classic (a la Hagler vs. Hearns). Los Angeles will be bustling September 28th, and I just may show up to the Staples Center for this legendary bout! May the best man win!
