The much publicized and awaited boxing match between Mcgregor and Mayweather is just a couple of days away. In this post, I look at the key career stats.

Mayweather

Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of all time. He is undefeated in his professional career, his first professional fight was way back in 1996, and he has won every single boxing match he has fought in since then.He is coming out of retirement for this blockbuster fight with Mcgregor having retired in 2015 after his last fight with Andre Berto.

Mayweather Boxing Fight Stats

Mayweather has fought in a total of 49 fights with 0 losses.Out of his 49 victories, 26 were knockouts while 23 were victories awarded through decisions. See the visualization of his victories below:

McGregor

Mcgregor is a professional Mixed Martial Artist since he has been cleared by the WBO to participate in this blockbuster boxing match, I think it is safe to call him a professional boxer too. He is currently the UFC lightweight champion

Mcgregor MMA Fight Stats

Unlike Mayweather, Mcgregor has been defeated 3 times in his professional career. He has fought in a total of 24 fights with 3 losses.18 of his wins have been knockout wins. See visualization of all his fights below

Who is your money on ?

Mayweather is odds on favorite to win and with good reason too - he is undefeated, and he is fighting someone with very little professional boxing experience. However, here I am going to try making a case for McGregor.

Mayweather is seen by many as a conservative and defensive boxer; he tends to prioritize protecting himself when facing his opponents. McGregor, on the other hand, is a bit more aggressive. For the analysis, I tried to extract information on McGregor's 24 fights and determine the fights he won by knockouts and where the final blow of the knockout was delivered by a punch. For Mayweather, of course, it is easy to conclude all of his knockout wins were punches hehe. After extracting the information, I computed percentage wins of both fighters. Here is what I found:

You can see from the chart above, McGregor had a higher percentage of his wins coming from knockout punches. I know this was a different sport but if your money is on McGregor, just hope he lands a similar punch that can knock Mayweather out. Don't forget to send me a tip if McGregor wins hehe.

Let me know in the comments who your money is on.

Mayweather wins

Short and sweet, but the betting public is betting on McGregor, which is why Mayweather's odds have been reduced from -600 to -475. Check out my latest blog for the $175 steem giveaway. Three winners will walk away with 100, 50, and 25 steems. I can't wait to see the spectacle in six days.

I can't. Believe so many give Mcgregor a punchers chance
When even Pacquiao couldn't touch him
And I strongly believe Pacquiao will murder Mcgregor in 4 rounds

Can Mcgregor beat Antonio Margarito?

Floyd has taken no punishment in his entire career! Except 2-3 punches!
Floyd is not affected a bit by age
His knowledge is way beyond Mcgregors understanding and skills of boxing

It is not always about who has the most power, if you can't land a punch then power means nothing. People who are a lot faster and more accurate than mcgregor have been unable to land clean punches on mayweather. I recall Aturo thunder gatti, nicknamed thunder because of his immense power, walking back to his corner and complaining "i can't hit him, i can't land a punch". Mayweather is older now and this fight depends on how well he has aged, he has slowed down, but still possess his defensive ability. Good post with nice stats, i enjoyed it.

In my eyes Mayweather is the clear favorite. Without a doubt. But one the other hand I stopped doubting McGregor when he defeated Mendes, Aldo, Alvares... Who knows going to happen, but Im pretty sure it's going to be awesome.

Not even close, IMHO. Mayweather wins by a landslide in a decision. McGregor might get in a couple flurry's but for most part won't touch him.

This fight is gonna be a joke - the only reason Floyd might not win is if he throws the fight, which is why, at this time, I will not be betting on the fight. Definitely gonna watch this clown show tho.

I wonder if a single credible analyst thinks Conor has any shit of winning this fight. I'd guess no.
