Who Would You Rather Have In Your Team: Sane or Richarlison?

Two young players who have lit up the Premier League this season are 20-year old Richarlison of Watford and 21-year-old Leroy Sané of Manchester City.

Richarlison, full name Richarlison de Andrade is a Brazilian midfielder who has played mostly on the left side of a forward 3. He and Sane are similar in that regard. Sane was initially deployed on the right by coach Pep Guardiola where he was expected to cut in and shoot with his stronger left foot.

Leroy Sané is in his 2nd season in the Premier League and has scored six goals and had eight assists in 16 appearances (12 starts) while Richarlison who is also in his 2nd season has contributed five goals and four assists in 18 appearances.

Richarlison has created six big chances this season but has an abysmal conversion rate. He has taken a total of 58 shots this season, but just 11 of them have hit the target thus giving him a conversion rate of merely 19%. Richarlison has missed a total of 8 big chances. Richarlison contributes immensely to his team’s defence, and he has had a total of 32 tackles, 17 blocked shots, 13 interceptions, 15 clearances and 13 headed clearances. He has scored five goals, 2 with his right foot, 2 with his left foot and 1 with his head.

All of Sane’s goals have come from his left foot. He has taken a total of 30 shots this season with 12 of them hitting the target thus giving him a 40% shooting accuracy despite the fact that he has missed four big chances. He averages a total of 30 passes per game, and a return of 8 assists is very impressive from the German who has also created nine big chances.

Regarding playing style, Richarlison, in his first season in Europe, and playing for the relatively weaker Watford, averages more shots while contributing less concerning chances for his teammates. He also loses the ball way more than Leroy Sane although he draws a lot of fouls and wins set pieces for his team.

Sané is more mature and calmer on the ball as he's more used to the league. He is used to European soccer as opposed to Richarlison who just came from South America. Sané is a much calmer player, and he only takes a shot when he's sure of testing the keeper. Sané also looks good at taking free kicks even though he's yet to score.

Both of these players are good and play nice attractive football. They're also young and new to the league so we will see more of them in the coming years. If I’m to build my team and I’m in need of a left winger, Sane will be the one to do the job for me. In my opinion, he is the better player not just because of his stature or his good looks but because he’s more clinical in front of goal and can play more with his teammates.
