South Korea needs to hurry up and make Steem their national and official currency.
As someone who lives in Korea and has a lot at stake....

I live in the UK where the powers that be would rather die than replace the Her Majesty's dear currency with anything.
Upbit got hacked today. There is actually a petition for the government to fully investigate and arrest everyone involved. Koreans have lost so much money on crypto its crazy.
The regulations here are already intense. The amount of checks to just open an account is ridiculous. Each exchange has one specific bank that you must have an account with. Then you gotta download a ton of security programs. It's a nuisance. Most people just use foreign exchanges.
Every time the government thinks about making it easier, they change their minds. It's not even taxed here because no one wants to admit it is an asset.
Yeah I saw that news about the hack. Looks like an inside job to be honest. Maybe even the government themselves. Who knows.
It's crazy how restricted things are. I'm quite surprised. I always thought Korea was more forward thinking that way than even Europe. Apparently not.
2 years ago koreans inflated the national market so badly btc was 30~50% more expensive on Korean exchanges for months. The government had to do something to get the market under control before everyone bankrupted themselves.
Korea has one of the most protected economies out there, but they are very good at signing trade agreements. I think they were the first to sign a brexit trade agreement.

I hope it can stabilise at a slightly higher level for a while to boost confidence. It needs to double to get in the top 50. That does not seem too unreasonable.
With Steem holding with Bitcoin falling below 7.000$, is a pretty good signal of confidence in my opinion.
The price is still very low. It is very difficult to know how long it will remain low or if it will go even lower. Whatever the case, people have had over a year of low price. That is quite a large window to get in the game. If people miss that window they only have themselves to blame.

At one point my Steem was worth $100k! It was powered up, so I could not have sold much at that price. I want it to go up so people keep engaging. I can wait a long while before I cash out again. I have seen some wanting a shorter power-down, but that seems like a bad move to me. There needs to be an incentive to stick with it and drive the value up even if that has not always been working out.
Lol I was planning on buying steem. Now I may just go btc and wait for something.
I bought 500 for around £50 the other day, it's peanuts!
Even if you buy now, it's still historically quite low, but I'm sure the price will go down again so you may as well hold on!
