Exactly. Brand works when paired with an adc like Draven or Lucian who like to push the wave and get early kills. But a support like Braum or Thresh are much more effective when paired with Tristana or Ashe for example who aren't so strong in the early game and need help staying alive.
I prefer Thresh support. You need to understand which supports work best with ADC's cause there are purely poke lanes and all-in lanes.
