Mount Ellen SOTA Activation

My hiking buddy (my 5yr old son) and I activated Mount Ellen, W1/GM-013 on Sunday 7/7/18. Took us 5 hours to get up on the Jerusalem Trail and the Long Trail and I was able to make 9 contacts on VHF in 45 minutes, including three Summit to Summit contacts with Mount Washington 80 miles away! I received my new Bioenno 12ah battery in the mail yesterday so I brought the big guns with me: my Icom 2730 for 50 watts of power instead of 5 watts from my Kenwood Th-D72a. I hiked with the Kenwood sending out APRS beacons so the chasers (and my wife!) could track our progress on aprs.fi online. Beautiful weather, wonderful company and the equipment worked perfectly! It only took us three hours to get down so we were home in time for dinner (a little late!) Thank you to the chasers for another successful activation! 73, KC1IFK
