Changes in my life, on and off the chain (+ 1k SP Delegation Contest)

Things are changing in my life.

Last year in July, I've finished my bachelor thesis and received my degree in molecular biology.
I proceeded to work in a biopharmaceutical lab for 3 months, and am currently employed as a lab assistant at the neurobiology lab of my University.

In February, I applied to a University in Ireland to get a MSc in Immunology, and 2 weeks ago, I was officially accepted, which means I will be moving from Germany to Ireland - possibly permanently.@suesa

Many things come with that change. Finding a new home, new friends, new ... everything. And while I am extremely anxious (wtf is the housing market in Ireland even?), I'm also looking forward to all the new experiences - a lot.

Things here on Steem have changed too.

At the very beginning, I was part of @ocd (seems like an eternity ago), and later steemSTEM. I used to blog on a daily basis. Over time, the posts became less, but I guess everyone knows that.

Last year, I left steemSTEM to re-orient myself and joined Utopian.

Community projects have been my main focus from the start because the Steem community is something worth to be preserved. I've met so many of you in person, and I'm looking forward to increasing that number.

Sadly, Utopian turned out ... not so great. I had considered making a long and detailed post about what went down but after writing it I realized that it looked like I'm creating drama and FUD.

Even though I personally don't like the direction Utopian, an awesome project, is going, it doesn't mean it will never succeed. But creating FUD would certainly throw a wrench into the gears.

So, let's stick with "Utopian didn't work out for me and many others. It makes me sad, but maybe the future will bring change. I hope so, for everyone involved."

What now?

There are currently no community projects I feel especially connected to.

I currently support @juanmanuellopez1 (who's running a small curation project in Spanish) with 500 SP, @dustbunny with 250 SP, and @cleanplanet with 100 SP. But there isn't really anything I can actively do there. Not in the ways I want.

After a bit of thought, I decided to apply to work for @buildteam, because I see potential in what they're doing. Potential to bring new users and investors to the Steem blockchain.

TokenBB (a Steem based forum platform) and DLease (a SP leasing market intended to draw more passive investors to the chain) are their current flagships, and they're looking great.

It's not the community project I've been looking for, but we share a common vision for the blockchain, and BuildTeam certainly has an impact.

So yeah, that's what I'm doing now, aside from occasionally posting stuff here and on @suesa-random.

You read through all my rambles about changes, the present, the past, and the future but you're actually just here for the SP delegation contest, right? Thought so.

The Topic:

What is your vision for Steem?

Write a post that answers the following question:

  • What brought you to Steem?

  • What do you wish would change?
  • What do you think Steem needs in terms of apps?
  • What has been your best Steem experience so far?

I still stand by my claim: You are made of win, awesome and magic. Anything you touch is made better. I've admired you and your writing long before I had the amazing fortune of getting to know you as a person and seeing just how much value you bring to the blockchain and to anyone around you.

I can't wait to come to Ireland and plant a gorgeous garden with you. Have I mentioned I miss you madly? Having you here felt so natural and homey, I can't help but miss it.

As for the future: I am right behind you. Let's conquer the world.

touches you

There are so many ways I can take this thread to naughty places now...

What's stopping you?

Too many ways to choose from.

Pick all of them.

I might just have a go at this - fits in with my current mood.

Nice restraint on the Utopia thing, always sit on negative posts for a while - I did the same thing with 'why I'm not taking part in 777' - it just seemed no good would come of publishing it.

I'm sure I saw @regaemuffin mention moving to Ireland in Discord the other day... are you moving out together?

I guess it's not a bad place to be for crypto-tax purposes either!

I just recently bought and staked some Buildteam tokens - I like what they're doing too. Probably gonna get me some more.

Peace!

Yep, we're moving together :)

Ireland is awesome!!! Trust me when I say: "It will be GRAND" :D

Seriously though, the countryside there is just amazing and so incredibly alive... make sure you take some trips out to the west-coast, the landscape is just stunning. And maybe check out the remnants of some expatriated hippie communes of the Steiner-movement around Lough Derg... I dunno, whatever you're into, but Ireland is definitely worth to be spending some time there!

Also, I'm really curious about that utopian development... but yeah... I understand if you don't want to put that on the toaster for everyone to smell the fumes...

It'll be awesome, I love that country a lot. Actually been planning the whole thing for 2 years now. The tuition money was one motivator to join steem, and all money I've taken out has been put to the side for exactly that purpose.

And well, you do have my discord name 🤷‍♀️

Sad to hear things didn't work out at utopian.

Good luck in Ireland, easy on the alcohol. :D

You know me, I will get so blackout drunk that there will be nudes of me on the chain as a result

Damn it, I should have tried harder while you were here!!!

;)

Nooo, I want to be the only one that has them!

Dankeschön 😊

Good luck in your new ventures.
Sad that things didn't work out at utopian. Both traditional fundraising and crowdfunding proved very difficult and the crypto bear market created a big problem.
I hope @elear is able to deliver his roadmap and utopian can grow again.

I don't think the fundraising was the problem here

Actually it was because people needed to be paid. The problems arose because people weren’t being compensated. Everything flowed from that.
People’s behaviors and tolerances are very different when they are paid.
That is part of why Steem is a much more respectful environment that other online forums.

Respect cannot be bought. Loyalty cannot be bought. Honesty, a rare commodity in these parts, is also not something you can buy. But I find it interesting that you assume it's all about the money. Says a lot about you as a person.

Steem is a much more respectful environment that other online forums.

Hardly. The only difference between Steem and other online forums is that Steem has a system that empowers those with money, regardless of how disrespectful they are to others.

Funny, because the experience of Utopian is when crypto markets were high and everyone involved was being rewarded financially for their contributions there was plenty of respect and apparent loyalty.
As soon as the money dried up, respect went out the window and loyalty soon followed.
This is not a criticism of Utopian or anyone involved, it is just human nature.
If you stop being paid, your tolerance drops.

when crypto markets were high and everyone involved was being rewarded financially for their contributions there was plenty of respect and apparent loyalty.

APPARENT is the key word in that statement. There's a difference between employees who do the bare minimum to get the money, and collaborators with a mutual vision who work toward a goal driven by faith, passion and a group synergy.

If it's all about the money, how do startups even survive the first year or two before they get investors? What makes people invest time and energy while unpaid?

it is just human nature.

No, it's YOUR nature and I respect that. I often wish I was more like you in that aspect. I sell myself too cheap and assume everyone is like me rather than like you. My assumption that people can be driven by non-monetary goals hasn't gotten me very far, so perhaps I should work on adopting your approach: Want my respect and loyalty? Pay up.

On Yom HaShoah I think it is important to distinguish between how blatant anti-semites run wild on many online forums but are flagged into insignificance on Steem.
This self regulation works without the expensive and biased censorship of "trust and safety" people on major forums like Facebook.
People behave better when bad behaviour will cost them money.

How is Yom HaShoah relevant?

If one of the whales (say, bernie) started posting antisemitic content, it would not be flagged into insignificance. If someone invests a pile of money in enough SP to promote that type of content, it will be. Money rules, as you've said. Respect is bought, free speech is purchased.

But a whale who did this would be destroying the value of the Steem platform and thus damaging their investment.
That's why whales don't post blatantly anti-semitic content.

On Yom HaShoah, in a world or rising anti-semitism, we need to choose between the centralised censorship approach of Facebook or the self-regulatory approach of Steem. I choose the later.

Hello @suesa! I'm sorry I was late for this publication, I've had a lot of work this week. I am very happy with everything you announce on this occasion.

All changes must be made with the desire to learn new things.

I hope with all my heart that you will do very well in this new era for you, that all your works are prosperous and productive for you and that you have many satisfactions in everything new you do.

And again, thank you very much for supporting my project, with which I hope to contribute to all of us who work for our Venezuelan music.

As far as possible, I will also take a look at these projects that you mention. For days I've been looking for different things, I found a new project called @entropia, and they have very new things for me and I'm interested. Trying to try everything new will always be good.

And from now on, I wish success to all the participants in this contest, and to win the best. Take advantage of the opportunity that @suesa gives us, I am a testimony of this fact.

Regards!!!

It was a good run... you taught me a lot and made general chat the funniest part of the chain. I had to leave for a while to fix my rather not so good real life and I am glad to be having the opportunity to crawl back to a community I love.

Good luck with the move... I still envy how easy it is for you to move around. Congratulations on every achievement you've made... I feel like I am a part of it as a fellow woman who wants nothing but the best for our species!

I hope to see you around more again <3

I am trying to stay put 🖤
