Vedic Maths Tutorial 7!

Hello Hive,

Today we will understand some further subtraction concepts. Note that we will learn subtraction in steps, going from basic to advanced. We have already learn the preliminary steps for subtraction, we will take a step further now.

In this tutorial, we will learn how we perform subtraction with larger numbers (with all match combinations) and then subtraction of double digit with single digit (units place being mismatch combination)

Let’s now understand each one of these concepts.

Subtracting Larger Number

Similar to addition, we will follow subtraction left to right. Let’s take an example.
9876
-7324

Now at first glance, we can see that all of the individual columns in the above problem are match combinations. So we simply start from left to right. We have already learnt the subtraction results of match combinations in the previous tutorial, now we will just apply that.

So starting with left, the answer becomes 2552.

This is very simple, lets practice some problems around this.

7654 5432 8532 7537 4896 9054
-1230 -1020 -3402 -4326 -2464 -6031

Subtracting single digit from double digit.

Now this is something new.

Let’s see how we do this with an example.

45
-7

In this example, as we can see, the units place is a mismatch combination. So just by seeing as a starting point, we write 3 (4-1) on the left hand place.

Now we find out the compliment of the bottom number at units place (i.e. 7) and add it to the number above. So in this case it becomes 3+5 =8

So the answer becomes 38. Isn’t this simple?

Let’s take another example.

38
-9

So again, we start from the left and write 2 at the tens place.

Take compliment of the bottom digit (9) and add it to the above digit. So 1+8 = 9

So the answer becomes 29.

Try more of these in your notebook and you will master this in no time.
