Not wanting to drag politics into videogames is bad…
Videogame journalists literally made a career in the last decade of talking down to gamers like myself for “taking video games too seriously” And now all of a sudden you want to be taken seriously when everyone mocks you? “How dare you suggest I not make video game reviews about my personal politics. It is actually impossible to talk about a video game without mentioning how much I hate Trump for seven of the eight paragraphs.” – Actual videogame journalists. There is some irony to be found in your Tweet:
Does every single thing have to be analyzed from a political perspective in every single online video game publication? Could a video game not just be a fuckin goddamn game, and is it possible to be such an online videogame publication that does not try and insert Freudian political theories into everything they publish. Video games being political is an excuse for journalistic hackery, nothing more. There was no politics in videogames until the outrage brigade infested games journalism and dragged it into the sewers, all for the sake of clickbait controversies for extra clicks. And here is another thing, games that literally are based around using politics aren’t ever mentioned when talking about “political video games”. Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, Total War, Red Faction just to mention a few.
Having said that it is really funny to see some videogame journalists imply that apparently games journalism is actually supposed to be political like that guy that inserted a few paragraphs about Trump and Brexit awkwardly into a Resident Evil review and got made fun for doing it. Can someone please tell me how a game about a man going to save his wife who has been held hostage by a creepy bioweapon girl. And who infected an innocent swamp family created by a huge pharma company, as anything to do with Trump or Brexit? Now don’t get me wrong I don’t have a problem with people looking at games through a political lens (When called for). But it’s just done constantly now, and by people who don’t really have a grasp on either video games or politics…
And the usual suspects decided to drag out the #GamerGate boogie man that seems to be hiding under their beds. So good old Patrick is saying that GamerGaters don’t want politics invading the games industry? Sounds about right. These people are so far gone they imagine everyone is against them and everything makes you a GamerGater to this crowd…
