Happy SeaShells In Costa Del Sol

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

These beautiful seashells were found by my son, during our walk in Nerja Beach, Costa del Sol.

I wondered how many different kinds of seashells there were?
There are between 50,000 and 200,000, species of mollusk. Mollusks are small invertebrate animals that usually have delicate and slimy bodies. Their shells protect their fragile bodies from predators that can hurt them.

I look on the net and compare the seashells that my son found. This is one of them.
Vanhyning's Cockle, or Heart Clams because of their shape. It can grow up to 5". A cockle is edible and belongs to a family Cardiidae.

It is light brown in color with dark stain on the ridges. Look at this beautiful seashells. Just amazing how the color blended.

Next time that we go shelling, I will try to sort them out. It's just fun to collect them.

These are the other kinds of seashells that we found in Costa de la Luz.

Including info on the seashells, or the day you were shelling may make your post more interesting and informative. Just a suggestion. Love the shells. :-D
