Surfing Sunday - What nature teaches us for life [video message included]steemCreated with Sketch.

'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you´re gonna get.' - Forrest Gump

Ain´t that the truth!

Suspense is surely one of the uncountable reasons that make life exciting in the end.
And maybe it´s not always about what you get but about how you deal with that gift.

Here´s what surfing and nature have taught me about chocolate boxes.

#puravida - Surfing Sunday

Surfing comes close to Forrest Gump´s chocolate box.

The lessons surfing teaches you come fast. You have to accept and internalize those lessons quickly, otherwise you risk hurting yourself.

The more I have learnt from the Ocean, the more I realize that everything it shows me is actually something which if applied to our wider lives would have an extremely positive impact.

Here is one: You may never control the wave, but you can learn how to surf it.

Thus: You never know how the conditions are going to be (what you get from that chocolate box). Every day is different. Even if you believed having an idea of them, then they might change from one second to the other. However, you can learn to accept and manage that.

Surfing Sunday (1:30 min YouTube video statement)

 +++ Transcription / Translation +++

"Hi Steemians! I was thinking about doing a video in German today, cause I may speak in my native tongue for a change. Actually I am very lucky: while the rest of the island is covered by clouds, sun came out here at my favourite surf spot. That means I can get tanned while surfing as a side effect, which is not too bad.

However, the general conditions are not that awesome, since it´s relatively windy. Waves are kind of undefined as you can see in the back. The wind is coming from the Ocean towards the coast which means 'onshore'. That leads to waves that are not perfectly shaped, since there won´t be any barrels. 'Offshore' would be much better, but this is not plastic surgery - it´s nature! You can´t chose, you have to deal with the conditions you are provided with.

That´s probably the moral of surfing or even of life: We have to take what we get and make the best of it.

I will enter the water now. It´s quite cold. The outside temperature is about 22 to 23 degrees Celsius, but the water´s temp is definitely below that level. That´s why I am going to put my thick wetsuit on and then probably won´t be freezing.

Yesterday things were running well, my muscles are still a bit sore. I hope it will work in the same way today, or even better. We´ll see.

I´ll keep you posted anyways. See ya!"

In fact today´s surfing session was not my best one. However, I fully enjoyed being in the water. That´s how life works: not every day can be a five star experience that boosts us to another level, and... it doesn´t need to be :)

Sure, we cannot control the wave, but if we surfing on it, we get the fun :)

Fun is priceless, yeah :)
Thanks for stopping by, @steemvest17!

Enjoy the waves @surfermarly, looks like a beautiful day there.

Thank you @whatageek! The Sea was kind of rough and I couldn´t really shine with my performance today. However, it was a beautiful day. There is no doubt a bout that :)
Happy Sunday to you, too

Well you shine on steemit instead. Enjoy the rest of the day.

That´s a cute way of seeing it :-) Thank you!

I like it!

We know there might be waves, but we can't control the sea or the waves... but we can control how we respond... by (perhaps) becoming really good surfers.

It was great to listen to you speak in German :) My uncle is from Germany originally and his relatives would come to visit once every couple of years when I was growing up. He's married to my mom's twin sister, and when I was young we used to live within a few miles of one another. My two cousins were also my two best friends (still are two of the people closest to me), so I spent a lot of time at their house. And hearing you speak brings back warm memories of being sprawled out on the rug playing board games while my uncle and his relatives spoke to one another in German at the dining room table.
I love the water! I never did learn to surf, but I can water ski on the lake at my parents like a champ ;)

Oh that´s cute. Usually people don´t associate German with warm memories since it´s a quite strong language, I am glad you have a different view on it :)
Water ski is really tough! I congratulate to that one. I´ve tried it twice and badly failed, haha

I like it @surfermarly

It´s been my pleasure @anwarabdullah, thanks for stopping by!

Yes, my friend, are you happy with me @surfermarly

Buena semana!!!

Thank you for sharing your stories. Love how out doorsy you are! Keep having fun :)

Oh I love to be "outdoorsy" as you called it! I am kind of addicted to oxygen :)
Thanks for your kind words, I am truly happy you enjoyed it :)

Great post! :)

Thank you, @nikolina. I am happy you liked it :)

Roll with the wave you have today!
Thanks @surfermarly!

Waves for everybody, yeah!
