ACHIEVEMENT 3 BY @SWAGON : TASK CONTENT ETIQUETTE
Woaw dear steemians here is my in take on plagiarism.
DEFINATION OF PLAGIARISM
This is the stealing of someone's idea or words without giving a recognition in form of credit to them as the source. In other words it can be described as a literary theft of an author's work.
All these makes us understand that plagiarism is a form of fraudulent act and as been put up for sanction through copywrites laws.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
Well am going to brief explain 6 common types of plagiarism we have :
MOSAIC OR PATCHWORK PLAGIARISM
Like the word implies patchwork, this type involves usage of sentence structures or synonyms to make a work looks original, simply just paraphrasing without citation to make a work look original.
In this context taking a writer's idea is plagiarism even if not matching the idea word for word.PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
This is the most easiest and commonest type it involves paraphrasing the original work but without changing the concept and borrowed material throughout the plagiarized work.COMPLETE PLAGIARISM
This is the complete copying and pasting of the original work and idea as yours changing only the author's name in this context.
4. SELF-PLAGIARISM
This is a suitation when a writer duplicates his own writings word for word, for a topic instead of generating a new concept or writeup.
This is self inflicting and more or less can be damaging like other forms of plagiarism.
5. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This is when you accidentally copy someone else writing without giving proper citation or credit to them as the source.
6. DIRECT OR VERBATIM PLAGIARISM
Well this is an intentional form of plagiarism in which the writers words are copied word for word with few words changed and posted in a new form hereby claiming the writeup.
HOW TO PREVENT PLAGIARISM
- Plan your writeups
- Take effective notes
- When doubting, cite sources
- Make it clear who said what
- Know how to paraphrase
- Check your sources.
CITATION
This is a way of notifying your readers that a content from your work is from another source. It makes the source information available for the readers to go through or make use of.
WHY IS CITATION IMPORTANT
- It shows the amount of research you have done
- It helps to avoid copyright sanctions
- It helps your readers have a broad scope of the content.
- It strengthens your writeups.
- It helps avoid plagiarism.
EXAMPLE OF CITATION
Football is a game of passion without any form of violence.
Football the world most popular ball game in numbers of participants and spectators. Source.
Now the first statement football is a game of passion without any form of violence is an original statement why the latter is sourced from another writer.
CONCLUSION
Citation is very necessary in order to avoid plagiarism and it helps to give credit to the source writers moreso avoiding copywrite sanctions.
