Beautiful Sunday - Family Beach Clean! Making a Difference One Piece of Plastic at a Time!
This is my son. Today we took him to the beach - not to swim or to play in the sand like we usually do, but instead, we woke up in the wee hours of the morning to go and pick up litter. 2020 is the year we make a difference as a family. Today we went to make our beach BEAUTIFUL!

We put on our bright yellow rubber gloves and off we went with rubbish bags in tow. The beach itself was mesmerizing but we were very disappointed to see how much litter there actually was. While we made a difference, it was a needle in a haystack compared to how much was strewn about the sand, rocks, and water.

The beach in question is Blue Lagoon. It's situated in Durban and is a popular spot for fishermen. Many of the items found lying around were hooks and pieces of fishing line. PLEASE, if you are a fisherman - pick up after yourself!
I hope my son will learn from today's adventure. He knows not to litter but I hope that he will learn to pick up after others, even if the mess is not his. Maybe this will rub off on his friends and we will eventually create a ripple of "non-litterers".
Have a beautiful Sunday everyone!
Anyway, this is what we did today! The heat has now become unbearable and we are cooling off indoors. Soon we will head out for a swim in the pool - I think we have earned some fun.
Good to have this early lessons instill in him
That was really great of you to do. My street is like a garbage dump. I'm always out there picking up garbage where people just dump it out of their cars while passing by. Its such a same to see beauty covered up with trash.
Good Job!
And a experience that will accompany him throughout his life.
