My Husband, A Self-Made Businessman - A Story Of Success!

in #life7 years ago

My husband the entrepreneur (he's going to hate me for posting this)!

My husband and I began our relationship towards then end of our teenage years. We were young and in love and we wanted to start our entry into adulthood together. My husband never finished his schooling career, he was a high school dropout, a rebel in his parent’s eyes (and mine). But I was madly in love with him and I knew he was destined to do great things! Me on the other hand, I was a perfect student and matriculated with distinctions and had already enrolled to complete my tertiary studies as a Psychology major. We had plans!

Living in a country with a third world economy however was not easy. My husband couldn’t find a job that paid well enough in our small town and the salary I was earning as an unqualified nursery school teacher didn’t help much either. So in our early twenties we decided to move to the city, in the hopes that it would have more opportunities to create the comfortable lifestyle we wanted together.

Hubby and I back in the day - young and innocent!

This is when we moved to Durban, South Africa

We literally moved to the city with only a couple of thousand to our name, with no jobs waiting for us. Luckily my aunt had a little cottage for us to stay in and she let us live there with the first month’s rent free, which was a huge help! We are industrious people though and within the first two weeks I had found a job as an au pair and my hubby got a position as a graphic designer at a signage company. While we worked, we studied. I did was studying towards a formal degree, my husband, he took out books from the library that taught him how to design websites and start a business. How’s that for self-dedication!

Fast forward to 10 years later

My husband is now the owner of a successful Software Development country here in South Africa where we offer services that very few other companies in our country do. He studied out of his own, started doing free-lance work on the side while doing a full-time job too and then eventually took the leap to start his own business. He is an entrepreneur of note!

He now has a team of 8 employees under him, including me! We are a well-known business in our local community but we also have clients across the globe! And while he built this enterprise with help from me and with a little support from his family, he really did the hard work himself. He rolled up his sleeves, took advantage of the opportunities that came his way and took chances.

Meet the team:

September is my husband’s birthday month, he turns 34. For a 34-year-old with no formal education he has come a long way and I am extremely proud of him. Because of his hard work and initiative, we are living a comfortable life and we have grown our family because we could afford to do so, which is the biggest gift he could ever give me!

It just goes to show, you don’t have to have a formal education or a privileged background to make something of yourself. You simply need to roll your sleeves up, take responsibility for your actions and do some hard work!

You’ve got this!

That's a great story and thank-you for sharing it with us.
Yes, you you should be proud of your man!

Yet again you found me a great post to read ;)

Thank you for reading and your continuos support (I notice you read my posts often), I really appreciate it!

My husband is also a school drop out. The school system is just not suitable for some, and often for those who are the most original thinkers.

Agreed! And I wish the schooling system would realise this too andbtry and accomodate those who beed something more!

Nice post @sweetpea. . Thankyou for sharing.

Thanks and my pleasure :)

Hi, I would like to congratulate you and your husband. Besides hard work, I am sure your positive and persistence helps to make this a success. Keep up the good work and help others who also need a helping hand. It will come a full circle. Thank you for sharing your success story.
