Lost But Found ?!

The 1000 years old Pink and White Terraces was the largest silica sinter deposits in the world, created by sinter deposits build up at the edge of the pool from thermal water that runs from the center of the earth. The magical white and pink colored properties are due to their specific mineralogy and bacterial colonies thriving from within. From the neighboring town of Rotorua, travellers have to make their difficult way through to Waimangu Volcanic Rift Alley to enjoy the thermal bath.

The Wonders

The once renowned hot spring that captivated tourist from across the world in the mid 1800's was lost after the violent eruption of Mount Tarawera which killed more than 150 people nearby. Burying and destroying the beautiful New Zealand's Pink and White Terrace, leaving no traces behind. In a blink of an eye, the 8th wonder of the world was wiped off the map for over a century without its coordinate. High resolution underwater sonar scan and surveys were conducted over the years but unable to conclude the findings as the traces left behind aren't solid enough.

Can it be recovered?

Remaining hopeful and determined, it was not until recently discovered by researchers whom suspected the supposedly destroyed terraces were actually buried deep over layers upon layers of mud and ashes. According to the diary of German-Austrian geologist Ferdinand von Hochsetter, researchers speculate it to be at the fore shore of Lake Rotohama as that's the only evidence that surveyed around that particular spot.

In a matter of time, with the local government's approval, scientist would finally be able to escavate and restore its original form. I'll be ready when it's open to the public.
