INTRODUCTION

Whatever we do in life has a traced element of motivation. Something would always prompt us to do something, nothing happens by chance. Motivation is very powerful and can be used as a ladder to reaching unto greatness If properly harnessed. Follow me on this journey as we briefly examine the power of self-motivation and it's influence in the life of an individual.

WHAT IS MOTIVATION?

The word motivation comes from the latin word 'movere' which means to 'move'
For an appreciable level of understanding and clarity let's define the word motivation. Now, according to Longman dictionary of contemporary English, motivation is seen as the eagerness and willingness to do something. Suffice to say that it is an incentive or reason for doing something. Motivation could be intrinsic or extrinsic.

INTRINSIC MOTIVATION

It is intrinsic motivation when the individual is stimulated to do something for his own sake without being coerced or compelled to act by some external factors. For instance, a student who spends hours reading everyday for the purpose of gaining knowledge rather than having the intention of just doing well in an aptitude test or exam.

EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION

When one is aroused by some external factors into achieving a set goal such individual can be said to be extrinsically motivated. In this case goals are left unaccomplished, abandoned and deserted. For instance, a student who visit his reading materials and other academic paraphernalia only when his exams are fast approaching is only driven by the fear of failure. The big question is, what happens after his exams? Here, his oncoming exams seems to be the fundamental reason for his studying.

A man who knows where he is going is focused and self-motivated. He sets his face as a flint until he arrives at his expected end. A college student who really wants to do well in his exams should not be sleeping when he's supposed to be reading.

Men of vision are men of focus. When a man easily gets weary of his assignment in life, is a sign of lack of motivation. When you are self-motivated at accomplishing a task, you always have the energy to keep at it. Please understand this, without a bearing, life is bound to be boring. When you are self-motivated, you enjoy a continuous supply of energy. Many people have left their future blank, they are not expecting anything, so they get there to find nothing. A wise man once said "Aim nothing, hit nothing"

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY!

Sit up and take responsibility! If you have a dream pursue it. And the only way to do that is to be self-motivated. Step out of your comfort zone! you've dwelt there for too long. Pass through those pains today and gain the reward tomorrow. Training might be difficult but it pays.

Whatever you do in life, let it come from within. Be intrinsically motivated. Do the right thing at the right time, pursue that dream, start up that business plan, get going, avoid procrastination and be purpose driven. Don't wait for people to encourage you before getting into action, keep on doing what is right. These days people are so overwhelmed with their problems that they barely have time to look at other people's countenance. Hence; waiting for people to cheer you up before taking actions could lead to heartbreaks, frustrations and disappointments. Don't ever trivialize the place of self-motivation. You'll be needing more of it on your journey to destiny. Take charge and act now!
