Traditional Japanese poetry 　朝ぼらけ　澄み渡りたる

When my teacher explains the state of mind that is necessary for Aikido, he often quotes the next “Waka". "Waka" is a traditional Japanese poetry.

"I want to make my heart like a clear sky clear of dawn."

The above is a translation of the works of Waka made by Emperor Meiji.

My teacher often taught Aikido in a foreign country, so in order to convey the unique nuance of Japanese, he translated Waka and so on and explained.

Beyond race and religion, there is a common sense as mankind, so it would be easier for people who translated poems expressing that feeling to convey than to explain with difficult words.

明治天皇御製

多田先生が合気道に必要な心の状態を説明される際、よく引用される歌です。

調べてみると、「朝ぼらけ」の箇所が「浅緑」となっているものが多いです。

新渡戸稲造がこの歌を「明治天皇の宇宙的な感情を表現したもの」と解説しているようです。ちゃんとした資料で調べた訳ではないですが、やはりそういう歌なんですね。

多田先生は外国で指導されることが多いので、日本語独特のニュアンスを伝えるために、和歌等を訳して説明されています。

人種や宗教を超えて、人類として共通の感覚がありますので、難しい言葉で説明するよりも、それらを詠んだ歌を訳した方が伝わりやすいのでしょう。
