Why doctors wear green/blue robes instead white while performing a surgery?

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Although, doctors are, most of the time, pictured and seen wearing white robes; however, in most of the places in the world, surgeons wear only blue or green suits when they operate. Have you ever thought why?   Well, whether you’ve thought or not, I had been thinking for a while and now I know the answer, which I’m going to share with you here.

Initially, all the medical clothing were white, until in 1914 one influential doctor abandoned this uniform in favor of green, and then blue. What actually happens is that a crystal white color can make a surgeon’s site blinded for a few seconds if he translates his eyes from the deep-red color of blood to the coats of his workfellows.

The same thing we experience when we walk out of the house into the street and look at the snow or a white wall on a sunny day. But why the operating-uniform of doctors in the surgery room is still green and blue, and not yellow or pink or purple?

The reason behind this is green and blue are the opposite color of red in the color-spectrum, and during surgeries, surgeons have to constantly look at red blood. Thus, the shape of the blue and green colors not only stimulates the doctor’s eyesight, it makes them more susceptible to shades of red as well. And therefore, to the nuances of human anatomy, which significantly minimizes the likeliness of errors during the surgery.
