There are many beautiful places in the world, and all of them are definitely worth seeing for one reason or another. It can be difficult to choose which place to see first, and which to see last. And even once you’ve picked a country, it’s not easy to pick exactly which part of the country to see. Most of the time we just go to capital cities or beaches, but a lot of the time, that’s far from being the only thing the country has to offer. 1. Puthia Temple Complex

The Puthia Temple Complex is located 23 km East of Rajshahi city and has the largest number of historic buildings and temples in all of Bangladesh. These temples were built in the terracotta style, but also combining the typical Jor-bangla architecture with other influences. If you like Hindu temples then this is definitely the place to go, since you’ll be able to see many of them all clustered together in one place.

2. Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban

Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban is the National Parliament House of Bangladesh, and while it’s not one of the most touristy spots in the country, it’s definitely worth seeing. It’s actually one of the largest legislative buildings in the world, and it’s been called one of the most significant buildings of the 20th century. It’s definitely a very interesting piece of architecture.

3. Floating Guava Market

Guava is tropical fruit that looks like a combination of a berry and an apple. It’s often called the apple of the tropics, and a lot of farmers in Bangladesh make their living selling Guavas. The really interesting thing about it, is how they sell it. It’s not your regular market with little stalls and displays, instead it takes place on boats in the middle of a river or a canal. The floating market tradition is more than a hundred years old and is definitely a must see when visiting Bangladesh.

4. Nilgiri Mountains

The Nilgiri Mountains are truly mesmerizing. Especially during the colder seasons. The best way to witness the beauty of this place is too book yourself a vacation at the Nilgiri Hill resort. It’s situated on the highest peak and from there you can see the wonderful view of the mountains. Being able to witness the clouds floating between the mountain peaks is a sight you definitely don’t want to miss.

5. Star Mosque

This beautiful Mosque was built at the beginning of the 19th century, and at first it wasn’t meant to look like this. It originally had only three domes, but eventually the other 2 were added. The mosque is decorated with ornate tiles brought in from China and England. This mosque boasts one of the very few examples of chinitikri mosaics, which you can see in the blue star patterns on the outside of the building.

6. Jatiyo Smriti Soudho

Jatiyo Smriti Soudho also known as the National Martyrs’ Memorial is a national Bangladesh monument that symbolizes the courage of all those who gave their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. That’s the war that basically won Bangladesh their independence when they separated from Pakistan. The monument is very impressive, and looks even more impressive at night with the dramatic illumination.

7. Tanguar Haor

Tagual Haor is a Ramsar site. It’s a wetland area that spans around 100 square kilometers and is a source of livelihood for many people. It’s difficult to explain, but once you see this place you’ll be mesmerized. People who have visited the Haor say that just hiring a boat and witnessing sunrise or sunset in this place is just magical.

8. Ahsan Manzil

Ahsan Manzil is a beautiful building and a good example of the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture and is one of the most significant architectural monuments of Bangladesh. It was once an official residence of the Dhaka Nawab Family and therefore was closed to the public. Now it’s a national museum that you can visit when you’re in Bangladesh.

9. Boga Lake

From memories of war to peaceful things – the Boga lake. This lake is rectangular in shape and is believed to be more than 2000 years old. Geologists say that it was most likely created by rain water accumulating in the crater of a dead volcano. However, there is a local legend that says that a long time ago the people from a local village killed and ate a deity, which later appeared in front of them in the shape of a dragon. To show it’s rage and anger the deity caused an earthquake that made the village cave in and a deep lake formed in its place.

10. St Martin’s Island

St Martin’s Island is a small but picturesque island of the coast of Bangladesh. It’s the only coral island in Bangladesh and it’s only 8 square kilometers in size. The island’s population is only 4000 people, but when you think about, that’s actually a lot for just 8 sq km. During high tide the island literally shrinks and becomes only 5 sq km in size. St Martin’s is a popular tourist destination, and there are 5 different ships that do daily trips to the island. Tourist often like to try and walk around the coast of the whole island because it’s so small and one can usually do that in about 2 hours.
