After A Red Day In The Apps, It Is All Green Today!!!!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #busy6 years ago

After the hit everyone took from the news about dlive, it is time to get back to business. The trend reversed course overnight and the STEEM apps are all green today. Thinks are looking up.

One of the interesting topics that came out of yesterday's discussion is how @dtube does not store the videos for more than 30 days. This is something that they do to help save on server space. It is understandable since that can get expensive and most videos take up a lot of space. This is something that many do not consider when looking at something like this but it is a major concern to the @dtube team.

So what is the solution?

According to a post by @techcoderx, he wrote a bot himself that takes the videos and downloads them to a IPFS node. This means the videos will not disappear since they are copied from the @dtube servers and placed in the node. This puts the videos in a decentralized system.

So I decided to write a Discord bot myself from scratch to grab the IPFS hash of the video, using that to download the video from DTube’s servers then pin it to the IPFS node so that the video is available outside DTube’s servers so if DTube decides to delete your video, or their servers go down, your video will still be playable!

There is also a video he made showing how to use the Discord bot to get the videos downloaded onto his IFPS node.

I do not pretend to understand all of it and I am sure others will post some more videos on this if it takes off. To me, this does look like a fairly straight-forward system and a way to get one's videos posted in a place where they are not deleted.

Plus it is another step in the decentralization process.

@fundition put out a long post yesterday really detailing their entire operation. My sense is after the dlive thing, this application wanted to show everyone their history with STEEM and how they are planning on going forward.

I will not rehash all the points of their post since many of us know the history. For those who are unaware of this application, this brought crowdfunding to the blockchain. People are able to post projects that require assistance and get money through both upvotes and direct contributions.

What caught my attention was this:

I like the 5th and 6th lines. The fact they are intending on going ICO and then using the SMT protocol is reassuring. This is obviously an application that is dedicated to STEEM and helping this ecosystem grow.

The final piece of news comes from the "lose one/gain one" file. With the departure of dlive, we now can start to embrace a new application that was just introduced yesterday.

STEEM now has a polling application.

dpoll.xyz is an experimental application on the top of the STEEM blockchain. It has an account based voting system, where accounts may vote specific questions asked by other STEEM accounts.

It uses main STEEM posts as questions (polls), replies of the STEEM posts as votes.

Here is what a poll looks like:

This is what a poll looks like posted on Steemit.

Dpoll, is a minimum viable product, at the moment. I have developed it as a one man team to join the Utopian hackathon.

That being said, it's considered as an alpha product, at the moment. This is a public testing stage where the users may encounter bugs and problems. Use it at your own risk.

As I said, when one application goes, another one enters.

Dpoll seems like a pretty neat idea. I have no idea if it will take off but it is a fun kind of application that creates interaction. The fact they are using account-based voting helps. This will be something I believe we will see more of in the future.

It appears the creation of the poll will show up on the individual Steemit blog page as a post. After that, voting will provide a reward, I presume to the original poster. We will have to see how this application unfolds. Being a MVP app, it is very raw but with the understanding that it will grow.

As I posted yesterday, Steemians are resilient. We are not going to let an incident like took place stop this blockchain and all that is being developed on it. There are many fine days ahead for STEEM.

2018 was a bull run for the people developing on STEEM. After a down day, the STEEM application market is back to green.

Full STEEM ahead.

Indeed another outstanding example of Steem blockchain applicability.
DPOLL seems a good service for launching all type of surveys!
Steem on!

Is it live yet?

I really like the idea of the dpoll app as it is a simple tool that can be used with the community to engage and find interesting results as the community expands and develop more integration. I am looking closely on how it can be applied across the platform.

Thanks for the introduction of the dPoll. :)
