The Benefits of Milk

A person is normally feeding on milk almost from birth, so it's hard to imagine how we would manage without it in adulthood. The milk contains the whole group of lactic acid bacteria: lactobacilli, lactococci, bifidobacteria, etc. They use for their life the process of lactic acid fermentation, that is, ferment lactose with the subsequent formation of lactic acid. Getting into our body, they begin to compete with harmful microorganisms that live in our intestines.

Bacteria contained in milk are extremely important for us: they produce lactic acid, which kills microorganisms-pests. The latter are not always pathogenic, but they accumulate toxic substances as a result of their vital activity inside us.

Drinking milk is useful for a variety of reasons:

  • Milk strengthens the immune system.
  • Milk helps fight colds.
  • The use of milk at night contributes to a sound sleep. That is why children before going to bed are traditionally given a warm milk drink.
  • Milk is the most important supplier of vitamins and minerals: it contains a large amount of riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamins A, D, B1, B12, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, iron, fluorine, iodine.
  • Milk, provided it is low in fat, helps to lose weight and promotes effective fat burning.
  • If you drink milk regularly, you are less likely to get diabetes.

Why is milk harmful?

But sometimes the body tolerates dairy products poorly, and their use can cause problems with the stomach. The disorder most often can be caused by two reasons. The first is purely chemical: a person has low acidity, and therefore lactose, milk sugar, is not absorbed. The second reason: in unpasteurized milk, there may be microorganisms of the enterobacteria group. "Let's say the cows were milked in non-ideal sanitary conditions, it was dirty, intestinal bacteria got into the milk. They can cause poisoning or bacterial complications.

Conclusion

Therefore, if you prefer fresh milk, you should be sure:

  • The cow was healthy during milking and at least 10 days before it
  • Milking corresponded to all sanitary norms
  • Milk got to you no later than 2 hours after milking

If there is any doubt, it is better to choose milk that has been thermally processed and with the least chance of causing stomach upset.
