CONTEST: SCRIBBLING (LESSON 7).
Great Day Steemians,
I've been seriously busy offline lately but then, that isn't the major reason why I have posted another lesson yet, if I am being sincere with you all, I just couldn't pick up anything as our next subject, I had to rethink what the subject of this particular lesson would be a lot of times but I am glad that I was able to grasp some ideas from one of @krucekoncept's recent drawing which was a human hand and yes! This week, we study the human hand.
![IMG-20250121-WA0019.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbsUQogWfxUyVdvAQ4A9RHhbgzPQyZarYDy2GKyUqgwKK/IMG-20250121-WA0019.jpg)
THE LESSON!
The human hand is one part of the human body that many artists find difficult to draw sometime because it could easily be twisted and that makes it very tricky to draw but there's something I need you to understand which is that, as difficult as an object or subject could be, the more you draw it, the more you understand and get better at it.
![IMG-20250121-WA0017.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmPTkTCKtMhPLy9qttYAv9XPfrp3tY4RqWeFsPMLhPuJqB/IMG-20250121-WA0017.jpg)

I know my own angle of study could appear difficult to some of you but I need you to understand that the human hand can be folded in so many interesting ways so do not take my reference for it. Pick you own fight and seek victory. Follow all guidelines from the previous lessons and all the corrections and suggestions should help you create a fascinating drawing trust me.
THE CONTEST!
Pick a picture of a human hand, make a very careful sketch of the shape first, then gradually develop the shading with your scribbles until you've finally achieved your middle tones and then your darkest tones where needed.

HAND CONTEST ENTRY
Hi @tezzmax here’s my entry for the hand drawing contest. Kindly pardon me for I might have gone a little overboard with it or out of context.
Truly, the human hand has always been a challenge for many artist to conquer which happens to be the trickiest with as simple as it looks. And I also believe that with constant practice, nothing is impossible for it has been achieved by someone also.
@hive-120695 once asked me why I mix two mediums together in my works which are the pen and charcoal meadium and I’ll like to use this means to answer the question.
To This is because majorly because I just wanted to mixed them up to see what I can create with such technique and also to enable be achieve a better contrast in my drawing as the pen middle doesn’t really give room for too much shading with the way I use it.
@joslud check this out and kindly let me know what you think as regarding your perception on one of my works you commented on.
And I want to say thank you to @wakeupkitty for the support, encouragement and giving us the opportunity to keep challenging our creative mind as well as @tezzmax
PROCESS
This is cool! It's good you answered! Good luck with the contest.
Thank you so much!
Hola, @krucekoncept
Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the piece and appreciated the technique used.
بہت ہی بہترین کوشش
Thank you!
My attempt. It may not be perfect, but I'm glad something came out of it. It was difficult.

As for my output, I still have nothing to say...Although I'm starting to wonder if this is still a scribbling lesson. Some entries submitted here are hardly a scribble at all🤔 Does it make sense to abide by the rules?
Thank you
Nice entry
As for the entries that are not of scribbling, I shall address them in the result post.
Maybe you will like to enter this drawing contest: @olivia08 @okere-blessing @mehwish-almas
Don't tell me you are a painter😍 . Well, I'm an admirer of your mesmerizing words. And Now this is a breathtaking sight to sée this cutest drawing . The love between the human generations, probably that is the message of this piece of art. I'm not a good artist as you are. But yes, it is delightful to see good art pieces like this.
Thank you for your kind words. Happy the message came through even if the art still needs some tweaking... :>)
Hi, great hands!
Its my another try. I don't know if Im doing right . But what I thought, I made a try once more. It made myself relax and like chasing my mind how to make it better.
@diosarich @godlovermel24 and @godslove are good artist
A try is worth a reward! Art is good to express the feelings.
A great day to you!
🍀♥️
You made my day, 😇😇😇. Thank you so much and yes, I feel it when I draw it makes different. Thank you @steemcurator05
Dear teacher @tezzmax,
I want you to know that I didn't abandon you. I still try to figure out my own scribble handwriting, which isn't easy. By now, one should think I could at least scribble an egg, but no... It's as if my hand can't draw what my brain sees, unlike when it comes to writing.
I do what artist @serdak does and watch YouTube to see how others do it. After doing the sketch the "easy" way (why does mine look different, huh 🥴?), I gave up after hearing that voice saying the same thing over and over again.
I moved on to another master. I love him and the calm voice plus he uses a pencil and I'm running out of pens 🥺
It's not always easy to follow because it goes fast and if I stop the video my vision is blocked but hey, I start getting the picture and the more I watch him the more intrigued I am by his 1, 2, 1,2 and 1,2 sketches
Look, I even have a sketch of a lost hand of a robot!
I noticed this teacher has more episodes and the hand-entry of krucekoncept is shown as well. 😁 I just wonder how many do this with their hands.
To proof my bad sketches are made (the "easy" I started with) I add them underneath 🤐
Both I did before I found the present teacher of sketches.
If I continue this way I will never learn to scribble. I do have a question (yes, it is to keep you busy 😁) a part of last week's entries don't look like scribbling to me. True or doesn't it matter as long as we keep scratching?
@jiva34 @bahrol @bimanakhan @ronthroop can you give a hand?
I don’t know exactly what you are asking. I do know that after 20 years of making pictures, I still do not know how to draw! I took a drawing class in college when I was a teenager, and audited a figure drawing class at the university a few years ago. Both times were very frustrating because I think I am not interested (or capable) of perfecting a rendering technique that makes a human hand look like a human hand.I guess it’s just not that important to me. Composition, color, content... These are the things in visual art that matter to me. Cartoon hands are fine, and put human ones on a lizard , why not? As long as I felt good during the process. I never draw a picture with a pencil, pen, charcoal, what have you, and then paint it. I use the paint brush as the sole implement to make a painting.
Again, I do not know what you are asking. For me, I am only concerned about perfecting my limitations, (and there are many). But that’s okay. It leaves a lot of room for many perfections:) For me, painting is a door to joy.I don’t care about the end result, but know it will be good (enough) if it made me feel good along the way:)
You ended up in the scribble lessons given by @tezzmax. So I wondered if you can scribble, in this case a hand.
I believe the teacher drawing never taught how to sketch a hand and I doubt scribbling was a thing at all. All I remember was a wad of paper we should draw. I continued with the art class but not with the drawing class and instead of sketches I made studies and took photos. LOL
You don't do in hands at all, also not if you paint or model? As I understand you work out of a feeling without making a plan first? That is something I understand and spoke about with @almaguer as we talked about how we write without storyline or whatever people use to get anything on paper.
May I ask you how you are doing? I also wonder about you keeping your income low. Do people pay you with paint or something else since you paint daily? I know you told you gave your paintings away but still a lot is needed to create.
If time and possible would you like to show one of your colourful pieces again in this community, perhaps with some info about your project and how you work and your planned trip?
I wish you a great, creative weekend and like to add that I like what you say that painting is the door to joy and you don't care about the end result. It feels as if that should be the golden rule of an artist. Strange how we keep trying to make things perfect.
Somehow I missed this reply. Sorry for the late response...
I see now how I ended up in the scribble lesson!:)
Yes, I too write “stream of consciousness”, or reactively, usually from angst, pain, criticism... Painting is my happy “other side”, although I often use that as well to tell a sad story.
To answer your question... I am doing very well. I have reached a time in my life when I have all of my basic needs met. Still, it’s a hand to mouth existence, and yet I wouldn’t have it any other way. The children have left the nest, and my wife Rose is the bread winner, who supports my artistic path. I schooled and raised our children, worked as a cook for many years. Her employment eclipsed mine long ago (financially as well as rewarding(ly):)), and we both decided that the art of living is the path, so Ron... work however you can to make our life more than just survival. More color, more laughter! I cook all of our meals and keep the house secure, and yes, I have also made money along the way by exhibiting (and selling) my art. It is only this year that I am offering my work for free, but we’ll see how long I can hold out.
As far as supplies... I am working very small with limited colors, but so far, so good.
And yes, of course I will add to the community, and give updates on the project:)
And, and, I agree—If one has the time and means to paint, (and takes full advantage), then she has already knocked over the first and only barrier to living the creative life. I was still writing and painting as a single-father, part-time dishwasher in a rinky-dink restaurant. That was years ago. And I haven’t stopped.
Now I am off to make a sauce for tonight’s pasta!:)
Thank you!
Thanks for the reply and don't worry if it is late we all have a busy life, other things to do or simply look over it.
Breadwinner or not you do your share and for sure you know as a single parent how great it is if coming home after work and you can sit down (on the toilet) and relax and dinner is ready. I never had that but instead I decided to not cook if I didn't feel to it and my children never complained about it. All are creative, artistic so I consider myself luck since we know how it is to need space and room to do what makes one happy.
A house full of colour, laughter and a home cooked meal by a private cook, if you ask me there's nothing more what one can wish for.
I wish you a great evening and enjoy your meal!
Thank you!
It was very good and simple. Pasta and tomato sauce, kalamata olives, bread with oil and garlic, and green salad.
I love the simple life, but I think I would love more to be rich and live like a pauper (Picasso):)
I wish you all the best and a rich life!
🍀♥️
Thank you @muzack1 - team Spot-light do you like art? How should art be created into your opinion? What should be the bases, input of the artist? What makes one an artist?
I love you last statement a lot..
I think it's true for some artists and yes, I think when talking about art, we should often try to leave of the concept of perfection cause no matter how fine or beautiful a piece of Art is, it still won't be a perfect rendition. By the way, who enjoys perfection? Perfection is complacency, who's that great creative who really wants to be complacent?
I know how to paint, modelling and sculpt, but I never developed drawing. I had a drawing table but I never had the time and got rid of it.
Three of my children are artists and two of them were already drawing when they were less than two years old.
It's my believe anyone can do anything, but to learn something you have to have time and do it every day. I write because wat I like needs more space, its own room, there are more expenses.
Also, If I only have 1 hour time after work and every time I have to prepare everything before I can start and then clean and tidy up again, I'm at 1,5 - 2 hours further.
Have you tried to scribbl? @jiva34 seems to be a natural talent - you should see her first and last drawing! I think she works with more concentration whereas I do it fast fast fast.
My kid says: it's just scratching. 🤣
Now you scratch a hand, I shared a video about how you can sketch.
Have a great Sunday
♥️🍀
Lol..... Scratching indeed 😂
You're absolutely right, if it's something you love and wish to build then you'll definitely create time for it our of you busy schedule but if it's not something you really prioritize then that might me difficult.
For me it's luck more than anything. My "hand" scribble won't win any prizes. It's all thumbs... lol. Maybe you're in attack mode with scribble. Like fighting the water trying to learn to swim?
I think I kind of agree with you to some extent, as long as it's not a commission of imitating a particular object or subject and I the main goal would just be to enjoy the process but even at that, there are some there are some principles and elements that guides art that you would still have to put into consideration even as you're tring to play the freedom card. Do you get?
I do agree. Developing drawing skills can bring more opportunities for freedom. I would love to be a master painter so I could draw like a child if I chose to on any given day. I believe too many people don’t take their own art with love and devotion simply because of comparison with others who appear to have more (practiced) talent. I was a cook for many years. I was a good one, and became very creative (to my ability) in the restaurant kitchen. Still, I knew there were chefs out there Michelin rated, and even worked with one who was certainly a master of the culinary arts. However, I realized that I took cooking to the apex of my limitations, and I felt power in the practice. Power and freedom. For me, it’s the same with visual art. I have only one life to live. If I compare my work to Rembrandt or Chuck Close, then I will always be frustrated, and my work will not be true (to me and my limitations), and I’ll suffer. Henry Thoreau wrote that there are “many ways to live as radii drawn can be drawn from a center”. I feel the same with art. Success for me is someone being able to tell a Rembrandt from my work. A chateaubriand presentation? “No, it’s a Ron Throop—memorable hamburger with fries:)
Wow!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Sincerely speaking, you've just motivated me with your comment cause I am currently struggling with sometime similar and now I think I just go all out and keep doing me. Thank you very much. 🙏♥️
And wow back to you!
Thanks:)
You're most welcome friend.
I like the cook and limitations part it comforts, makes one think about who you are, liketo be and what you want for real.
The freedom to express and be.
Thank you! I used to pin the following quote on my front door:
Sorry, for the late reply, you should know I read you and also the info about #stuckism. I think about it but I like to exchange the canvas for other materials as well. I assume that's no problem? I have to find a new schedule next to what I'm doing or the the doing is better next to what I intend to do.
The message on your front door is a good one. I wonder how many read it or asked you what you meant by it or did they turn around and decided to go home, or never read a word used to the text on the door?
Bluebeard... there was a comic series named that way I loved it. Still have a part of these comics. I like the tale as well.
Thanks for the sharing and brightening my day.
Stuckism says it starts at the stopping point. I think it began as a reactionary movement of silly conceptual art exchanged among billionaires. One of its founders was dating a girl who exhibited her unmade bed, dirty laundry, ashtray, empty liquor bottles, etc... and Charles Satchhi the English billionaire, paid her $200,000 for it. He re-installed it in his mansion and showed it off at parties. The novelty paid off. He resold it in 2014, I believe, for 2 million. Stuckism is a reform movement back to traditional arts, and yes, that pretty much includes everything. Paint for painting’s sake. Make music for joy not riches. All art forms expressed by the need to express, not make a buck...
Human beings are artists. “Moderate giftedness” (quote above) is each and every one of us in a perfect world. Those who breakthrough and realize this, I believe, have a calling to reminds us all of what we have lost and the joy of living that can be regained. Painting is my path. There are many more ways, right?
Thank you!
Wonderful, thank you!
To know that you've actually gone this far trying to learn and understand the idea is very impressive to me and if I'll be telling you the truth, you're doing just great. Not even all artists can scribble, I do have lots of my artist friends that are practically good but can't scribble shit but the principal idea with scribbling is to be able to draw with much confidence and freedom and I'm sure that you can always do that!
I will continue to try it out and find my style. A part of my brain must be able to capture/steer the drawing part as well. 🥴
Thanks for the supportive words. Today it will be a bit more with this teacher and next I try to scribble it somehow.
A good Sunday.
Lol...don't worry too much, I trust you to get better with time. A wonderful sunday to you too.
👍
I enjoy reading your content though 😌
And I don’t even know where to start with your last statement..lol
But the truth is, when drawing becomes one’s habit, it becomes part of the daily process and the more we don’t stay consistent with it, the more it leaves us as well..
but regardless, you’re doing well!🙂
