Manigault House in Charleston, Set 1steemCreated with Sketch.

in #history6 years ago

This is the first set of photographs I will post from the Joseph Manigault House, an historic treasure in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. The Manigault House is part of the Charleston Museum, the main part of which sits right across the street. This was built in 1803 and is a prime example of one of the best antebellum mansions. The architecture, the detail inside and out, the furnishings, the table settings, and the chandeliers showed off the wealth of one of the richest men in the country at that time, who was a rice planter and plantation owner. He kept slaves, who had separate quarters in another building, though later some of them lived in this house also. There is a portrait here of the woman of the house.

I love the looks of old houses such as this. We use to have one in the family that was donated later to valley forge which they unfortunately let go to hell :(
