The Thief of Ordvail | 5-Minute Freewrite - Prompt: Fiber

in Freewriters4 years ago

This is my five-minute freewrite. The prompt is fiber.

Sweat beaded his brow. His feet pounded against hard stone. A bag slung over a shoulder, he ran through the gaps between buildings and houses. The almost full moon illuminated everything in a white, if dim, light.

On foot after the other. The shouts behind grew louder. It hadn't been that important, had it? He slipped into a market and ducked behind one of the dividing curtains, hoping to lose them. But as he took another step, he stepped on something that felt like rope, and a cat yowled loudly and ran away, hissing. So much for being sneaky. Again.
"Where is he?! Where's the thief?!" A voice rang out close by, too close. Throwing caution to the wind, which was somewhat lacking that night, he bolted out of the shop. "There he is! Get 'im, lads!"

Whoa, he thought. The captain of the guard is after me!

He turned a sharp corner and then another, then finally spotted a small storage building next to a house. Ducking into it, he listened, but seemed he actually shook them off. He reached back and opened the coarse-fibered bag, a blue and pink glow coming out. "Oh. It is important. Oops."
