Experts: Fat-free diets shorten life

in #food7 years ago

Low fat diets can increase the risk of early death. A massive study of Canadian scientists has shown that the highest death rate - 23% higher - is among the people who eat the least fat, says Daily Mail.

Scientists at McMaster University have surveyed 135,000 people aged 35 to 70 from 18 countries around the world.

Fats can have a protective effect on health, scientists say. Instead, those who want to eat healthily should restrict carbohydrates - potatoes, bread, pasta and rice.

The results of the study challenge the decades of healthy eating recommendations that make people predominantly reduce fat.

Presenting the results of the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology in Barcelona, Dr. Makshid Degan of McMaster University said: "The body needs fat, it carries vitamins, provides essential acids, has its role. affects important minerals ".

But people should not eat any fat. Not more than 11% of them should be saturated - from cheese, butter, cream. If people follow the recommendation, 35% of their energy is fat, they will eat healthy. The point is that many are getting to the extreme by limiting too much fat.

Another important result of the study is that overweight with carbohydrate increases the risk of death to 28% compared to those who do not abuse them.

However, carbohydrates should not be excluded from food. Canadian scientists recommend 50-55% of the energy to buy from them and 35% of total fat.
