Mindfuck philosophy: Franz Kafka's quote about youth.

in #philosophy8 years ago

Hey guys, this is my first ever try at making an essay about philosophy, so please be gentle with me. :))

Today I wanted to talk about what Franz Kafka once used to say: "Youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty. Anyone who keeps this ability never grows old."

     Who is Franz Kakfa?

Well, he was a modernist writer, who wrote mostly novels and he also was a philosopher.

He was born on the 3rd of July, 1883 in the city of Prague, to a german speaking Jewish familly.

Few of his works were published, and even those who made it into the libraries recevied only litte attention, although some of his notable writing were: "The Metamorphosis", "The Trial" or "The Castle".

He edvenutally died in 1924 due to tuberculosis.

    About the famous quote

Well, now its time to talk about the quote, but first, lets see what the meaning of "beauty" is.

I could iterpret this word  in two different ways: exterior beauty and interior beauty.

And probably Franz Kafka is reffering to the inner beauty, symbolizing someone's true self, the beauty of being unique.

With all of those said, we are going to see if he was right or if his words still apply to today's standards.

From my point of view, Kafka's quote is mostly invalidated by the present youth. Why? Well, I can see the in the quote, the word "youth" can be associated with wisdom or, as Tai Lopez used to say "KNOWLEDGE", something that our generation lacks.

Our generation these days, in my opinion can't see the "beauty" anymore, unless its about Justin Bieber's six pack, or Kim Kardashian's ass.

Today, most of the youngsters always want to be in the center of attention, which can make some loose faith in themselves because they're not who the want to be...they're not "cool" or whatever.

So, this leads  to people trying to impersonate someone else, like a celebrity or someone they think is superior to themselves...they will alter their personality in order to get accepted into society.

And this is where our own beauty stars to fade away. We are no longer happy with ourselves, we are trying to be someone else, so youth has no longer that ability to see beauty, therefor, its no longer happy.

So, with all of those said,  seeing and appreciating people for what they truly are represent a quality that a few use these days.

Anyway, as I said before, this is my first try at writing an essay of this topic, so...i really hope you guys enjoyed. :))

Very well written essay @thethirdeye. I think this is also applicable to those who find themselves at the throes of middle age. Do you think that with the internet, social media platform is empowering us to embrace our individuality or is it amplifying the glorification of celebrities?

thanks...well, celebreties wouldn't have been so well known if it wasnt for the media, so it definitly amplifies the glorification of them. It etvenutally depends on how"wise" you are in order to gather the good qualities or life lessons from some of these celebrities or whoever for self-development, instead of straigh-up imitating them entirely.
