This is what Glory Does to the Flesh of Man

We all can agree that Jesus Christ shed His blood to take care of this sin problem. Yet in every instance where I have seen a measure of God's glory enter a worship service, a godly reverence, fear, and dread of His glory also entered the room. Even redeemed, blood-washed church leaders who lead holy lives suddenly feel a deep urgency to fall on their faces and repent before their holy God when His kabod. or weighty presence, begins to fill the room.

This is what glory does to the flesh of man even the flesh of the redeemed. This is why the earthy disciples always had to be reassured when a theophany or an angel appeared before them. They feared that the glory would kill them!

For this reason, God says to us with one hand, "Come close." Yet with the other hand He says, "Not so fast." It can be frightening to come too close to God's holy presence when there are specks of unrepented sin in your life. Yes, we are covered by the blood of Christ, but that doesn't release us from the felt need to repent of our sins and shortcomings anew when we encounter the holiness of His presence. Do we need to "get saved all over again"? Absolutely not! But do we often feel like "getting saved all over again"? Absolutely! Isaiah did! John did—he fell at His feet "as though dead"! (See Revelation 1:17.)

Jesus covers us with His blood to allow us to come into His presence in our unregenerated state. "What do you mean, unregenerated?"

We are not perfect, but we are living under the mantle of forgiveness— we are covered by the blood of the perfect sinless sacrifice—so we can enter in. That is where we're at now under the new covenant of Christ's blood, but somehow David stumbled across that same principle under the old covenants of Moses and the Old Testament when he began transporting the ark from Obededom's house. It was a bloody, smoky process that led to David's wild dance through the gates of Jerusalem.

What we are learning from his experience is that the repentant, brokenhearted nature of true worship only heightens the rich aroma of our acceptable sacrifice to God. and it is this offering that persuades the King of Glory to habitate with us instead of merely visit our meetings. When His glory finally comes through the gates of worship into our churches and cities, we too might become dancing fools!

There is no better way to wage spiritual warfare than to turn on the light of God's glory by ushering in His manifest presence. Allow Him to rebuild His favorite house in your gatherings and refuse to stop short at false finish lines or to be satisfied merely by the scent of where He once was.

Persist in your urgent longing for and pursuit of His presence and the heavens will open. His shekinah glory will descend on the mercy seat that your love and adoration have made just for Him. It is in this atmosphere of intimacy and devotion to God and God alone where His manifest presence shows up. When He turns on the light of His glory, demonic forces are instantly decimated. Captives are released and set free to run to their Redeemer just as the demoniac was released even before he met or heard Jesus speak.

When the heavens are open and God's light shines on the darkness, every demon and dark work is forced out because the gates of hell can never prevail or even put up a respectable fight when the very presence of the King of glory shows up. Conduct spiritual warfare for your church and city in the same way God conducts it in Heaven and you'll create a "DFZ" (a demon-free zone)! pray and worship Him until the windows of Heaven open wide over your church and city. Worship Him until the light of His glory shines upon you.
"O Lord, on earth as it is in Heaven—show us Your glory!"
