Google Pixel 4: 16-megapixel telephoto lens?
After Google Camera's latest release, updated to version 6.3, fresh sensor data on Google's next smartphone has been acquired: Pixel 4.
As Google itself confirmed through a tweet, the next Mountain View business smartphone will have more sensors in the back of the smartphone; however, recent findings have come to explore the new code of the renowned Google Camera. The fresh sensor has the code name "SABER" and references have been discovered to a telephoto module. This has also resulted to the discovery of the application-supported sensor list, among which we clearly find all the components of Pixel 3: ordinary and wide-angle front camera, rear camera and two fresh sensors, namely "FRONT IR" and "REAR TELEPHOTO."
Given the job already begun for the next Pixel 4 on the Google Camera, it is presumed that these are sensors that we will see right on the company's next smartphone. The apparent second rear objective visible in the official Google rendering of Pixel 4 further supports all this. To finish the fresh "facial authentication" feature current in Android Q, the front IR sensor would also introduce facial recognition.
The above code contains the phrases "Telephoto picture has sizes), (but should have sizes 4656 / 3496, 4656 / 3492 / 2328 / 1748" (Telephoto picture has sizes), (but should have sizes 4656 / 3496 / 4656 / 3492 / 2328 / 1748). It appears to be an error message used to debug the telephoto code, which with one of the few particular resolutions should return the pictures. From these resolutions, we can calculate that a enormous 16 MP telephoto sensor will be adopted by Pixel 4.
The many hypotheses produced by this code would confirm this new sensor for Google, but should not be taken as formal confirmations, which can be reported only after the formal lecture; fresh entries could therefore be produced in the coming months.
