📷 Catching my first Thunderstorm Lightning on Camera

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Today while being stuck in traffic coming back home from work, I noticed dark clouds roll in from the north, it was a windy day but it got dark unusually quickly.

Just before getting home at 5:40pm, the clouds got low and heavy and lighting show started. I stopped at the park and took my camera out not knowing what settings I should be on (never took lighting photos before), I didn't have my tripod so a long exposure was out of the question, but then the question reminded, what shutter and aperture settings? I set it on manual with gut feeling settings.

The only problem I had was storage.... I only had space for 50 more images, wanting to capture as much as possible I set my camera on continuous high shoot mode and blasted away, soon enough I ran out of space so I had to remove all the dud images manually, missing out on the lighting.

Long story short, I had 60 or so images in total, but only 7 are usable!

Great shots, resteemed without any hesitation!

That's the spirit Jack :D
Cheers mate.

Your photos got me thinking about the sky and our limits.....

Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice. You should come to Panama. It's a lightning hot spot. It's always going off here (not necessarily with rain or thunder either).

That would be cool, lighting in Melbourne seems pretty rare, well during the day time anyways.
But this was a awesome one because there was no rain for the first 30-40min.

Nice storm shots! Caught my eye as I'm sitting in front of a monument awaiting the lightning strikes here in Minnesota. :-)

Nice, I love thunderstorms, pitty their so rare here :(

We've had plenty here, but the timing had not worked out. I've been trying for a shot of this monument being struck for months! Glad you got a chance to enjoy that storm. Impressive looking clouds, for sure!

These are absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen a storm captured like this.

I one point I was kinda concerned I might get hit by lighting, but then I thought....must .... take.... photo!
Thank you Sarah!

Thanks for the re-steem, @sarahtops9000

I love lightning! @tomekkk

keep on trying, I have a friend who gets every single one, but I don't know how he does it...and he wont tell it xD

Thank you, will try.

Nice one. The images look natural, which country does this happen?

Melbourne - Australia :)

I think you got great shots such dramatic skies and cool captures of some of the bursts

I want to try and capture some lightning at some stage we get some good storms come in over the sound, just need to find a safe spot to be to try and catch some shots

Thank you sir, I'm pretty pleased with the result, the noise is to high though :/

Your welcome but most wouldn't notice the noise so let's not talk about it :)

Lovely photos

Your photos are great! Thanks so much for sharing! @tomekkk
