5 Tips on How to Be Loyal in Marriage
Being loyal to your spouse is an important principle in marriage. Why? Because loyalty is defined as a strong bond of obligation and belief in someone or something. In other words, loyalty is being attached to someone with whom you have an emotional bond that surpasses all the others in your relationship. It is about being loyal to your partner, not just sexually or physically, but with all aspects of your life.
People who are loyal to their partners are truly content with their marriage. They do not want to break up or ruin their marriages. They always find time to spend with their spouse, share good times and get upset about small things. They always want to please their partner and give them the best they can. When a person is faithful to his/her partner, the trust is full and there is no room for misinterpretation or deceit.
So how do you become this kind of person? How do you know if you want to be loyal to your spouse? One thing is for sure if you want to stay with your partner for life, you have to remain honest. You cannot fake loyalty because truthfulness only comes out of sincerity.
Next, you must be a trustworthy person. Do you really believe in your partner and what he/she wants to hear from you? Are you willing to keep secrets from them so that you can be loyal? If you are loyal, they would want to be with you. And being trustworthy is not something you can learn, it is inherent in your nature.
Third, you need to have a positive outlook in life. Marriage is hard work and requires a lot of sacrifices. And although your responsibilities may be different from your friends and relatives, you still have to give. Your marriage will not succeed unless you believe that it can.
Then, don't let discouragement bring you down. Remember, your spouse loves you just the way you are. If you are constantly trying to change or be different from your usual self, your spouse won't feel the same way about you. If you want to stay together for the long term, you have to keep the qualities that made you click in the beginning and nurture those once you are already settled into your marriage.
Fourth, don't give up on the things that make you click together. Although you might not like some of your past habits, it is better to grow and change them instead of just giving up. So instead of allowing your marriage to degenerate and ruin, try doing things that will improve the relationship and make you both happier. Be loyal, be patient, and be understanding.
Fifth, don't always expect your partner to be loyal. It's okay if he/she is not because human beings are fallible. But remember that the bond between you and your spouse is unique and that other people can affect it. Don't expect your partner to be loyal just because you are with him/her. Being loyal is a choice, and you can only make it when you feel that you are doing the right thing for your relationship.
Sixth, do not forget your own needs. You have your own feelings and goals, and your partner should also respect and listen to those. It doesn't mean that you can't be independent, although having an affair will definitely complicate matters. Your partner should know what kind of relationship you are having and how it works out for the two of you. Don't just assume that your partner knows all the details because you are not being honest with him/her.
Lastly, don't be selfish. When you married your spouse, you gave him/her the freedom to be loyal to you. So it is only fair that you show your partner that you want to be loyal to him/her as well. Try to understand your partner's motivations behind having an affair and you will see that there's nothing wrong at all. You just have to show your loyalty a little more.
Keeping these things in mind can definitely help you maintain the loyalty that you want in your marriage. Being loyal means more than love, it means being a person who cares and isn't willing to give up on the person he/she loves just to be with another person. Being loyal is very important for a long-term and stable marriage.
