Running against the wind

in #running7 years ago

We started our run under a powerful hot sun and with the thermometer reaching 30 degrees Celsius so, we decided to go on a comfortable and easy pace till half the distance and then come back in a faster pace.

The run was going very well since we have a little wind in our backs (8km/h according to the meteorological station close to Running Track)...

So we reached half the planned run, 4.5 Km and thus we turned back without delay.

The plan was to increase gently the pace during the last 4 km.

Suddenly the weather changed, passing from 8 to 24 km/h wind speed against us...

...and the "hell" fell over us...

The time per kilometer has been the following:

5'31.1" , 5'11.5" , 4'50.4" , 4'38.5" , 5'00.1" , 5'03.9" , 4'17.4" , 4'37" , 4'24.3"

Despite I managed to increase the pace in the second half of the run, It costed me a lot...

In order to keep a 4'20"/km my heart Frequency was reaching values over my Lactate Threshold (167 bpm), on which I used to run below 4'/km at that range normally...

So I waste at least 10% of my Heart Frequency in cooling down my body and "fighting" against the wind this noon...

At the end, what seemed to be a comfortable run it has become a tough workout...

But, at the end I went directly to the see and I had a relaxing cooling down bath in the Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Running Workout:

  • 9 km in 43'34"
  • Maximum Heart Beat frequency: 173 bpm's
  • Average Heart Beat frequency: 152 bpm's
  • Total Time including Cool Down Bath: 52'
  • Total length including cool down: 9.49 Km

Ahhh.......... those head winds, I know them well ;-)

And it must be even worse for you, because you're taller than me, so the wind would have more effect ;-)

hahhahaha, yes...that's why I always use a cap, for aerodynamic reasons ;-)

That's why I got a haircut - less wind resistance while I'm running on the treadmill ;-)

How was the water in the beach?

stupenda!
