Tesla stolen in few seconds by relaying the key signal from door to driveway.

in #security5 years ago (edited)

In a test performed by "What Car?" magazine, seven car models with keyless entry and start systems were tested to see how quickly they could be stolen. The results? An Audi TT RS was stolen in 10 seconds and a Land Rover Discovery Sport was stolen in 30.

Insurance claims for stolen vehicles hit their highest level in seven years at the beginning of 2019 according to the Association of British Insurers. Keyless car crime was part of the blame.

The question is how much money and skill does this method take? I’d guess it’s hard than a traditional key?

Should cost less than 1K and yes needed some skills but less than "traditional keys" unless you have a car from 1997, all keys have chips in them that makes it much harder than lock-picking.
