7 Continents: Spain - Batalha
Today I show you the beautiful Convent of Batalha. Specifically the wonderful church. It's was started to be built in 1426 and took 150 years to finish. Which is an incredibly long time. Yet, the result is really worth it.
Every window and door is beautifully decorated with ornaments made from stone. So much thought and detail went into every little piece.
All these Statues of Saints. Some with curious details, like the one here holding a creature on a metal chain. I'm actually not sure what is depicted here. So if you know, I would love to hear about it.
And of course, whenever you are in a church it's very rewarding to look up at the ceiling. Look at these marvelous details. Also the complex layout of the stones. Keep in mind this was built long before modern architectural skills or engineering calculations.
I end my post today with these rows of saints, framing the main entrance. I really enjoy these spiritual buildings. So much power and elegance can be gained from just looking at them.
