Great Circus Mystery Gets Magical on Sega Genesis – Today in Retro Gaming – June 2nd 1994
When you think back to the 16-Bit era, what is it that stands out to you the most? Is it the plethora of original titles that fans got? Is it the many quality licensed games that were released? For me, on days like this, I have to go with the second one. The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie for the Sega Genesis, also on the Super Nintendo and Game Boy Advance. 16-Bit action platform gaming fans, you know what I am talking about here, this is quality Mickey Mouse fun.(html comment removed: more)
The story is fairly original. Mickey and Minnie plan on spending their day at the circus. Upon arriving at the circus they meet Goofy who tells them that the circus people have all disappeared. Among those that have gone missing include Donald and Pluto. This is a serious situation and Mickey plans on getting to the bottom of the mystery.
This is actually the second game in the “Magical Quest” series of Mickey games that we saw released in the 16-Bit era. Only two made it to North America during this period. The third game, Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey and Donald, would not see release in North America until 2004 on the Game Boy Advance.
The basics of the series are kept in the Sega Genesis port- multiple costumes, action platforming and bosses with trademark patterns. Gamers that are a little turned off by tougher games will find the challenge level here slightly on the easier side. That may help make Circus Mystery a suitable title for younger players. Mickey is still a popular character, right?
Action platform titles is a genre that most gamers associate with the 16-Bit era- I know I do. What is your favorite memory of action games from back in the day?
