How I would love to Power Up and Why I am not.

in #steemit7 years ago

I have been on Steemit for over 3 months now and it has been an amazing journey.

I was introduced to Steemit by my friend @markwhittam. Mark and his amazing family would come and go from the community in Spain where I have been parked up and he was always so enthusiastic about the Steemit Platform. He spoke about this amazing supportive community online that is decentralized and rewards it's authors with crypto.

So I decided to jump onboard and well I am so glad that I did.

Of course I was overwhelmed at first, it really seems like an endless sea at times , there is so much to learn, so many different tags, different communities, all these competitions. I wanted to jump right in and have a hand in it all. I wanted to connect with everyone and from there start to use this great platform to bring about positive change. I got super
excited about the huge potential of steemit and and at the same time I was trying to understand how it all works.

I am a big believer in community and how important it is to come together and actively support one another. To help bridge all the divides that have been wedged between us all, put in place by governmental bodies, and held there by the media, who like to promote our differences as a threat, instead of celebrating them and embracing them.

We are all unique and amazing beings and when we are allowed to step into our full power we can actively bring about change.

For me community is there to find ways to empower people, educate people, share skills and live in a way that moves away from this culture of dominance and control.

Oh Happy days, I have started to find that community on steemit. I have found this platform where people are open, honest and happily sharing their skills, ideas and dreams. This is exactly what I want to be a part of. I certainly want to help this great community grow. So I joined the #ecotrain, the ecotrain 'supports things that help make the world a better place, including you', it's a community that shares and supports it's members. I have recently joined #teamgirlpowa and I am enjoying connecting with the community on there too.

I would love to be powering up all my payouts, because by doing this I would be investing in Steem, investing in the blockchain. But I have only done this once.

WHY

Well to answer that, I need to tell you a bit more about myself and my life. I am a mother to 3 beautiful girls. The youngest is almost 10 months and she is a force, in the best possible way. My other two are 8 and 5 and they are wild, creative and super adventurous.I live in a wooden horsebox with my partner and girls, on a piece of land in the south of Spain. We have always had enough to support ourselves and to feed ourselves wholesome, nutritious food.

For me that is a must, to be able to give my children the best food I can, be it some that I have grown or from the wonderful weekly market. All of our finances go on our food. Our clothes are recycled, we are lucky to live close to a boat that was created where people can leave their clothes that they no longer want and take something if they choose. My partner works when work is available. And that is how it has rolled for us for the past 2 years.

Previously we where on the road full time and my partner went busking or we sold food from our bus. The short of it is we always just had enough to feed ourselves and at times some left over for fuel, allowing us to move on. To me it has brought alot of freedom, we have had no ties we were free to roam.

Things changed when we sold our bus and got our present home, our Truck, we realized that she needed some work, so in order to do that we found somewhere to live while we tried to find ways to finance the work. Well 2 years later we still haven't had her fixed, but we did end up in this community, that my children love. It is full of creative people and it is a great place for my girls to be, for now anyhow, but I must admit I am getting very itchy feet to get back on the road.

Last year has been a huge year for me, I learnt that two members of my family were diagnosed with illnesses that have had a huge effect on their lives. I felt very far away from them, even though Spain is not too far away from Ireland, but the reality is that for me to travel with my family, a family of 5, is expensive, especially when you have been living hand to mouth for so long.

But then I got introduced to Steemit and now just when I needed it the most, I have been able to make an income. The payout from my posts have been put aside so that we can all travel to Ireland and visit my family. I would not be able to do this if it were not for the steemit community.

I was very fortunate to win a competition that @kafkanarchy84 organised in December. Because of that I have been able to get passports for my 2 youngest girls. So big thank you @kafkanarchy84.
And big thank you to @markwhittam for introducing me to this great platform, that has already changed my life.

And to everyone else who has supported me

I have always put my faith in the universe that when I really needed anything it would come to me and I feel so lucky to have steemit come into my life.

I have connected with so many amazing people. I have learnt so much and continue to learn so much and I have found a community that I really want to be a part of.

In the future I will definitely be powering up.

I couldn't agree more! I am so glad my huaband found steemit and alowly lured me on here. The community is a very supportive one, everywhere I turn Steemians are lifting one another up and sharing such useful information. I am a new mom and even though we are working through tough times I have always known that being with my children more often than not was important to me. Work has been offered to me but the thought of finding and affording child care and then being away from my babies is too overwhelming. I would rather work through the struggle and continue having such a closeness to my children instead. I hope we (the community) can get you to Ireland soon! -Aimee

Thank you so much Aimee for your lovely words and encouragement, I feel so lucky to be able to devote my time to my family. I love being there for my girls, seeing them play and learn and getting to witness all their milestones. These years at first may seem to go slow but in the grand scheme of things it is very short. If you can be at home with your beautiful twins you should, follow your heart x make sure to have a little time for yourself everyday, even just to go sit outside by yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help, what you are doing is amazing and so important and you need your strength to carry you. x So lovely to connect with you on here Aimee x

Great advice, thank you. I have found that a little time to myself each day really is important. I have been leaning on friends and family quite a bit, especially in the beginning. I never used to like asking for help but I realize quickly that doing so is imparative; plus that's what community is all about: sharing the load.

I am not sure whether or not you would be interested but I am posting our final b&w challenge photo later this afternoon. I was going to noninate you to join in the challenge next. The posts can be very quick and simple and may help earn a little extra steem for your journey. :)
Cheers, Aimee

Thanks Aimee will definitely check it out and take it on, quick and easy is important when you are a mum, thank you for thinking of me x

Right there with you, mama! I totally get it. I feel like I have been living hand to mouth forever, and I'm honestly ready to move past that part of my life and be free to travel and bless other amazing people. It's so nice to find other people who get it that time with kids is more important than money. Sometimes I get frustrated trying to explain that to people who just don't get it.

Yeah it's been that way for us for a long time and usually that is fine, but recently I've needed some extra and so lucky Steemit came into my life. My kids are the most important thing, money sure can't pay me time with them xx I'm with you on that xx

I'm tired of it, mama. Tired of not being able to fix things that are broken. Tired of not being able to take my kids to see and do cool shit. I won't ever give up my time with my kids, but I'm ready to have more money flowing. Glad to have found Steemit.

this is our year to get things moving xx

Yeehaw! So ready.

Wow. Very inspiring story. I love your lifestyle, surrounded by this beautiful nature.
I am so glad you found steemit through @markwhittam which is one of my favorite people on steemit and I love his posts about his families lifestyle.
It is so wonderful to hear that you can do those important things because I also strongly believe in steemit and the dreams it can fulfill.

Wonderful post @trucklife-family, I definitely will be following your journey here and glad that I have met you.

Thank you so much @joalvarez, for your lovely comment, I'm so happy to be connecting with all these great people on here. Really glad to have found you on here xx loved your family tree post x

Lots of love for you Aishlinn!! You will power up when the time comes for you. Right now, you are doing what's best for you and your family and you should be proud of that and I know you are :)

I am not powering up for almost the same reasons. My husband isn't earning much and since the financial responsibility is mostly on my shoulders currently, I keep the SBDs saved for contingencies like we had a few weeks ago when I was terribly-sick and couldn't work. Your story is so similar to mine with the exceptions of our work and lifestyle, but the gist of it is the same- we are earning just enough to support our family and till the time we earn just enough, we have to wait to power up. Our time will come soon :)

thank you beautiful, that's exactly it. I would love to be able to reward other people on here, but in time it will happen. patience xx I hope you are doing better now, got to look after ourselves, can be hard to do that as a mama though x

Oh it can be so hard and often I end up ignoring my own needs in the process.

I know I do it all too often, but we need our health and power to be the best mums we can, just need to practice what I preach more. xx

So much love for this post and respect for you and your family. What a beautiful life you lead <3

I feel the same about Steemit. I am trying to embrace my faith in the universe and trust we will have what we need. Thank you for this inspiring post. I hope you all have a wonderful time when you go to visit Ireland <3

thank you Karen, I really do love the community on here and am so happy to be on board, thanks for your beautiful feedback it means alot x

Have a wonderful day with you and yours <3

Although I appreciate your story (and am sorry to hear you're in this situation right now) you will never have to explain what you do with your hard-earned STEEM/SBD :-) They are yours and yours only. I'm just super happy for you to be able to buy passports and save up for travel! Hold the coins on your exchange a bit longer, the prices are going up right now, you will have more euros for your crypto :-) Good luck with it all!

Thank you @soyrosa, I really appreciate you dropping by and leaving me such a lovely comment and advice. I do love this great steemit community x
