A quick (Polite) thought, musing on STEEMIT after 1 Month

Are people "Polite" because there is an incentive?

I've noticed that people on STEEMIT are, for the most part, very agreeable and friendly. No matter the subject, people tend to be polite and respectful. So is this because there's a financial benefit to being nice? And if the answer is yes, what does this mean to the reality of this environment? Do the blogs really add value? Are they actually good blogs? Or is everyone just a bunch of "Yes Men/Women." And does this environment incentivise flocking after the "Big Whales" and positively commenting on whatever they post in the hopes of being noticed?

OR...

Is this environment actually filtering out the "Trolls?" All of the sudden, a "Troll" has something to loose. Therefore he/she stops being a jerk...and what your left with are the civil folks. As apposed to something like Youbube.com, where people give you their opinion...but if they disagree...it's usually like, "YOU'RE AN #@!#^@&!!, Blue is better than Red!"

What are you're thoughts?

Thanks, courtisey of Google :-)

yes the downvotes stop people from trolling and i am also new here and i am happy to follow you in support

Thanks! This environment is such an interesting social experiment for me...one that also has a financial benefit.

me too --give it a go and see if it adds value in terms of happiness to my life -so far so good

I think it's a little of both. Trolls can't survive, but I'm worried it's like the black mirror episode where folks are terrified of being flagged or upsetting the wrong whale.

That's so funny, your the 2nd person that has made that comparison. And it's very similar to it...which is why this fascinates me! I want to see where this goes :-)

Of course it's about the money. That's why everyone of us started. I came here for the money but actually found a like-minded community where i can be myself and i do think people are genuinely friendly and honest in steemit no matter the rewards.

I started with STEEMIT because I wanted to invest in STEEM coins, along with Bitcoins and Ethereum. I invested after trying out this platform and seeing what it's like and I thought, yeah, there's something to this. Along the way is when I discovered how this has a totally different feel from Youtube.com, Facebook.com, Twitter.com. Almost 99.999% of everyone here is simply nice. Which is what got me to thinking the obvious...hmm...is it because of the money? So I think it's maybe a mixed bag of both as @somethingsubtle said.
