Warning: Spoilers

The show dark is properly named. I'll be honest, I didn't even know what this show was about when I decided to begin watching it a few days ago when I was looking for a way to relax on a cold night (for the South). The show is a dark sci-fi show set in Germany that is a bit different than other shows. The show opens in the year 2019 in what appears to be a rural Germany town. The town is set with a brooding nuclear plant in the background, while dirt roads and woods seem to be all around. All is not well in this town, as children have been disappearing, first in 1986 and now they are again disappearing in the present. Shortly after the first boy's disappearance another little boy is found dead with his eyes and ears seemingly burned from his head. Initially the show is busy with setting the story, introducing the history of the town and the families that seem to run it, and filling in their individual stories with flashbacks to 1986. The show takes a turn however, when we are first introduced to the true secret of the town, the fact that the small town is practically sitting over the top of a worm hole that allows people to travel either thirty three or sixty six years into the past. While taking these journey's into the past we see just how connected the key characters truly are, brought together in a tangle as time bends and folds over on itself.

The show itself is surprisingly unreliable on gadgets and technology, and instead depends on the characters to weave most of the plot. The biggest mystery's we are shown are; a cave, a strange room with a sinister looking chair that we see a boy strapped into, a old cellar, and several clock like contraptions that characters use to try and manipulate time. All of this is set in a dark and moody setting where it is often raining, and references to Chernobyl are plentiful. The more that is reveled in the show, the more questions you will have, and the answers will not always be there, much to my chagrin. However, the show will draw you in with its endless mysteries and will leave you with more questions than answers. I for one, will be waiting for season two with baited breath.
