Valentine’s Day 情人节

Today is the Valentine’s Day that many would use the occasion to express their affection for their loved ones especially the spouses. Although this festival is made a legend, the story behind is still impressive and also a reflection of the reality of a certain background.

The Valentine’s Day is based on the narrative of St. Valentine who was imprisoned for conducting wedding for the Roman soldiers and taking care of Christians under persecution. Prior to his martyrdom, he wrote a letter to the girl of the man serving as his judge. This very girl regained her sight through Valentine, and in his letter, he referred himself as “Your Valentine”.

It doesn’t matter the narrative of Valentine is a legend or historical event, it is an account of sacrificial love. Hence, those who send greetings on the Valentine’s Day can be reminded that the authentic love is not just about romance but more on
sacrificial love.

今天是情人节，许多人会使用这节曰以表达他们对爱人和配偶的爱。虽然这是一个传奇性的节日，但其背后的故事仍然予人深刻印象，也反映了当时的现实背景。

情人节源自圣瓦伦丁的故事，他因为主持罗马士兵的婚礼及照顾受逼迫的基督徒而被监禁。並在面临殉道之前，他写了一封信给他的審判官的女兒，而这女子本是瞎眼的，但却通过瓦倫丁恢复了视力。在他的信中，他称自己为“你的瓦倫丁(情人)”。

無論情人节基于一个传说或历史事件，它必竟是描述了一个牺牲性的爱。因此，对于那些在情人节寄语问候的人来说，”真正的爱情不仅仅是关于浪漫，而是更多涉及了犧性的爱。”
